In short: Great atmosphere! In full: Start was well organised. Loved the start of the mens elite race with guy that just went for it!! Well done who ever you are! Can't wait to see you on Youtube. Couldn't have had any better conditions. Finish was smooth and red arrows helped you to forget about aching legs! Would do it again but maybe not next year, but if we win the lottery, we can hire a helicopter for the journey home! Driving was PANTS! Date of review: October 1, 2007

In short: 3rd time I've run it - gets better every year! In full: I know it's expensive and a pain to get accommodation. I know it's a long trek "Up North". But this run is ace. The start was excellent this year, where in the Orange Zone, we got through the start line really quickly. The atmosphere all along the route is fantastic; I can't believe how people go out of their way to help the runners along. I get a faster time each time I run this race, so I should be on for an all-time pb by next year! Date of review: October 1, 2007

In short: Simply the best In full: Only down side to this mass event is the standard of the expo which is getting worse move it back to the areana. This was my 7th on the bounce and thought it would be my last but simply put how can you turn away from such an event. This is a mass event that shows the world what good people runners are long may it last Date of review: October 1, 2007

In short: Best Race in the Country In full: 10th time of running the GNR and the organisation is definitely getting better. Starting Pens seemed to work for me and people around (Orange B), but why do they insist in putting so many White numbers at the start (Special Charity and Celebrity runners) who start off slow and hinder everyone behind them, there must have been about 100 of these runners starting between the elite/fast club runners and the sub 1:30 orange B numbers. It's this group that messes it up for everyone else down the line. Moan over, still the best event ever and only 10 seconds away from a p.b. at 1:26:27, dam those hills!!!!!!! In short: Nice race..... In full: ...shame about the goody bag! Which actually was the only thing wrong with the whole weekend,so it's not really a "proper whinge"! You can please some of the people all of the time... Hey, I'm pleased!! My time was a minute and half quicker than on the clock,so beware of the ones currently on the Great Run page, they may be updated as the week goes on. My son ran a PB of 1h 23mins! I am so chuffed for him. I was fortunate to start at the front in Orange zone B and encountered little difficulty having to dodge past those who in the past have started way ahead of their realistic finishing times.Well done to the organisers for getting the wave start so very right.
A really massive "Thank you!!" to everybody who took part in whatever capacity, runner, walker, marshall,St Johns, youth organisations,bands....and especially the good people of Newcastle and South Shields. You are all amazing!!! See you next year!!! Date of review: October 1, 2007

In short: Great atmosphere and well organised!! In full: Had a great time, spoke to Paula Radcliffe on the Saturday as well so that was worth the trip up from Liverpool (what a nice lady). Ran my PB in spite of the hills. Just a great atmosphere, lots of drink stations and St John ambulance passing out vaseline was a bonus. Only down side was the journey home 5 hours to Liverpool. In short: New viewpoint of GNR & NHS In full: This year I got a new insight into the backup & support that goes into GNR. There were 4 of us running, all separately, this year - myself , my twin daughters and one boyfriend. All of us are seasoned runners and, apart from Markus, haver run marathons as well as halves.Boyfriend and myself finished in about the same time but daughters took much longer than expected to get to the meeting area. When Markus went looking for them in charity tents , he found that one of the twins had passed out at the exit from the finish area. After support from one other runner and a passer by, thanks to both whoever you were, she was taken to the First Aid tent, found to be dehydrated and with an erratic heart rate. After being taken to the tent , she was dealt with by Red Cross & paramedics , given saline to help rehydrate and had some initial blood and cardiac tests. As she was causing concern , she was then transferred by ambulance with my wife to the local hospital which we'd all run past some time earlier. There , a whole ward was set aside for GNR runners and she waa given saline to rehydrate plus heart monitor until she had got back to normal. Everyone involved was extremely professional and understanding. I got a completely different view of race organisation issues - ambulance routings, cancellation of afternoon visiting at the hospital to cater for injuries and extra staffing are just a few examples. What I have always accepted is a well organised day out took on a whole new dimension. The supporters along the run were as always magnificent , I had to walk back along the route to the hospital after running the 13.1 miles and ended up getting a lift with two S Shields women who went out of their way to help. Thanks to the NHS & GNR organisation for making the day end well at least. Date of review: October 1, 2007

In short: A great day out In full: My first GNR, my second half-mara, and a 1.50 PB (by 10 minutes). Started in the Orange pen, no great problems with walkers/slow runners - more problems with runners side stepping and running like idiots. Magnificent atmosphere, really got caught up in it all. Easy arrival and escape by Nirvana coaches. considering it's more than just a race, it's expensive but good value. Date of review: October 1, 2007
