In short: Excellent local support and well organised but what was that low cal Powerade about? Toilets were the worst I've ver come across in a western country.

In short: Better for earlier finishers
In full: As it turned out, I was forced to take this one easy even though it was my first half and I fancied a much much better time. It is an iconic race near where I live and I heard lots of stories about locals handing out stuff and the atmosphere being great. I did enjoy myself but life at the back is not as lucrative - a lot of the bands had packed up and gone and jelly babies, oranges, cheering people etc were no more. Spare a thought for people at the back (i didnt slow anyone down - note to people above-because I put myself in the correct wave)and dont take stuff if u dont need it and note to race organisers to supply more, particularly at the 'boost zone' - not very effective. Keep the bands there!
On the other hand, first aiders, charity cheerers and bottle people were very friendly.

In short: Should be renamed the Greath North Event
In full: The Great North Run is the end of a weekend of events that celebrate running. This is not an event for running a PB nor is an event that you should take too seriously The best way to describe the Great North is as a training run with 40,000 mates. The whole area enters the spirit of the event and you will not get a better welcome anywhere elsewhere. This is a celebration of running I would say every runner should do this once to remember what running is truly about

In short: VERY busy but lots of spectators
In full: The race is very busy and it is near impossible to get a pb and theres so many runners that they dont tend to space out throughout the course. There are loads of great spectators throughout the whole course which give runners ice pops, oranges, jelly babies, etc.

In short: Great, for a reason
In full: the atmosphere at this race is bar none and so is the organisation, given the fact it has over 40,000 starters. This is my second year in a row, and I'd do it every year if I could get in. There are some inclines, but no massive hills, and the local support is truly fabulous. Where else do people line the streets with jelly babies, orange segments, water, Coke, hosepipes and ice pops! only downside is the water, dispensed in stupidly big bottles that didn't have the lid off. Spent 5 mins trying to get into one then gave up and took water off the locals instead. Plastic cups next year please!
