In short: A lovely day ruined by having to run a marathon!!! In full: I was told that Scotland didn't have a summer. Was doing ok until Mile 20, then really went backwards. Despite the breeze along the coastal road, the heat eventually caught up with me over the last six miles and was a bit disappointed with my time. Thought the organisation was fine, had no real beefs apart from a few of the mile markers appeared to be out. Really enjoyed the finish, was feeling awful and the crowd and scenery helped me over the line. There is nothing quite as demoralising as people steaming past you at regular intervals until you realise they were the relay runners, by which time the damage is done. If they can't run (hobble) the whole thing get them to run round a track!!! Would be a disgrace if this event did not continue. Didn't realise it was so new, and considering thought it was definitly heading in the right direction. See the bigger picture local council, surely there was plenty of people visiting and spending their cash to warrent some backing. The airport yesterday evening was full of the walking wounded to prove the numbers. Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: much better than last year crowds and marshalls superb In full: Great race in tough conditions last 2/1/2 miles hard but unavoidable for city centre finish Crowds and marshalls on course were nothing short of superb, made a hard race much easier Only slight complaint is mile markers were very eratic having averaged just under 9 min miles for 1st 9 miles suddenly went to over10 over11 then under6 fore next 3. Will definatley be back There must be someone out ther to sponsor this its a credit to scotland and needs more backing

In short: Absolutely brilliant! In full: This was my first ever marathon and I loved it! My pal and I took it at an easy pace, being our first and because of the heat. There was great support, well organised, lovely scenery and such a great atmosphere! Still cant believe we did it! Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Fantastic race that deserves to survive In full: My first marathon for 11 years and I'd forgotten how tough it was. This event is extremely well organised and follows a lovely scenic route through one of Britains most picturesque cities. Ok there's the odd dull bit but you're going to get that in any marathon. Thanks to the simultaneous relay there was plenty of support along the way and just about the right amount of water stations - although we could have done with sponges too. I understand the reasons given for withdrawing them but in yesterdays heat I wanted to drink the whole bottle but ended up having to pour half over my head and shoulders. Thanks to all the locals for setting up impromptu water stations and hosepipe showers - you were a godsend. Despite feeling awful due to the heat I loved this race. What a glorious finish line, just under Arthurs Seat. I hope you can find an event sponsor for next year, Edinburgh deserves to have this race. Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Well done to the organisers In full: A good race that overcame the bad-press of the week beforehand.
It would be a sad loss if this race folds. Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: A shables at the start - but otherwise brilliant In full: I too along with everyone else in the 4.30 and above pen, got mixed up with the relay runners and this got me off to a grumpy start, however this didn't last long and I thoroughly enjoyed every step of this my first marathon. I thought that the drinks stations were well placed and the marshalls did a great job - I'll be volunteering, next year. Overall, I am delighted with the event and despite the heat I ran it within my target time. I'll be back - but as a relay runner - one marathon is enough for me! Date of review: June 12, 2006

In short: Well done to the marshalls and crowd support for making a very hot, challenging event worthwhile. Tough but engaging race. In full: The heat was just too much for me, course was reasonably tough with lots of undulations, and the long coastal stretches were mentally challenging. Never going to be pb potential but a lovely city marathon which deserves to be a popular event. Organisers need to think about the hilly last few miles, seem to take forever, but otherwise a great course. Date of review: June 12, 2006
