In short: A good half marathon in extremely bad conditions In full: The marshal's were brilliant, stuck there standing in monsoon weather. The roads were ankle deep in water - runners were drenched, but spirit's were extremely high. This was a mldly challenging half marathon on a good day, but today it was made hard with the rain, wind, hail and strength it came down on us. Well done everyone who did it. In short: It hurt, was very wet, but lovely marshals made it. Thank you In full: It was very hard work due to the weather, and the waterlogged roads but i loved it. Marshals were encouraging, exspecialy the young ladies at one of the water station made me smile, also tea and bun served by some very nice people too Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Do this for the glorious scenery - not for a PB! In full: Hilly? Yes. Monsoon weather conditions. Undoubtedly. But who cares - even the ankle-deep streams we were splashing through couldn't spoil the enjoyment. This a gem of a half: a very small field and run through glorious countryside with just a few cars in 13 miles. Terrific support from the hardy marshals. And incredible value too - a medal and a t-shirt included in a very modest entry fee. Thank you, Downton! Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: The best 1/2 I've done this year. In full: Hard work but wonderful half. Realised at about mile 3 that this race was all about pleasure not pace! About 5 mins outside usual 1/2 marathon pace. Lovely scenery - the cows looked bemused but the horses a bit disinterested in the spectacle. Friendly helpful marshalls. A medal and a T shirt a nice surprise and good value. Completed 13 halves in 2006 and this was the highlight. Date of review: December 12, 2005

In short: Wonderful race through a beautiful part of the country In full: I loved this race. There weren't many of us (about 200 i think) but it had a lovely friendly atmosphere. Everyone was happy to chat and overall it was well organised and marshalled. A free t-shirt at the end was a lovely bonus Date of review: December 1, 2005

In short: Scenic, friendly, quite tough course. In full: My first hilly half. Really enjoyed it, the friendly marshalls were great: "it's worth the view when you get to the top". Virtually had to break the ice at the water stations - must have been cold for them. I think the friendly runners helped a lot on this - was dragged along towards the end and found the last two miles despite being flat to be pretty tough. Tea and buns great at the end, along with hot shower at the leisure centre. Only two qualms being that I nearly got lost at the end and it would have been good to have had something on for the (cold) spectators. Overall very good though. Date of review: November 28, 2005

In short: Tougher than expected;scenic, undulating course; very welcoming In full: The changing accom is in 1920's Memorial hall: okay for 170 turnout, but would be creaking if they pushed the numbers up.
The course was tougher than I'd trained for but not as mean as it could have been. Lucky with the weather - I'd been expecting snow :-)
