In short: lots of hills and mud
In full: This was hard work, the first half was mainly uphill, second half more downhill but the downhills were so steep or difficult underfoot that it was not reall possible to get up speed.
It took me only 15 mins less to do this than to do a full marathon so that will give you some idea as to how hard it is - I walked quite a lot! Once I had stopped worrying about being so close to the back and getting my trainers dirty I started to enjoy it.
well organised, lots of markings so impossible to get lost. Only 4 water stations with boiled sweets and biscuits at 1 of them. could have done with soft sweets and more biscuits!!!

In short: Superb. Absolutely cracking run.
In full: Thoroughly enjoyed this one. My very fond memories of the 2005 event were entirely accurate. It's hard to imagine having more fun than this.......whilst running ;-)

In short: Tough 18 miles cross country
In full: Had a great time, very challenging but well worth the visit. Very well organised. Would like a few more distance markers though.

In short: Fantastic Experience
In full: As an an ardent road runner, the BRR has shown me the unique delights and challenges of off-road running. The scenery was fanastic and the organisation superb. It was quite a tough course with several long climbs. However, I found the uphills presented less of a problem than the downhill sections. Highly recommended, but be prepared for the endless stiles, kissing gates, walls to climb over and gaps to squeeze through, and the bumpy terrain, especially on the steep downhill sections.

In short: Top marshalling, scenery and a course that holds your interest right to the bitter end!
In full: 18 miles, but so hilly that I think a safety net of 20 mile + road runs would help to really enjoy the run. Great company, and some sections of serene loneliness makes it a defining race to experience the pleasures of running. Unique to be clapped in by most of the other runners at the end! Thanks Belper RUFC

In short: now that was tough !
In full: Excellent organisation. Fantastic marshals & perfect course marking (I didn't have to look at my map once).

The hill at the start was a real killer. We don't have anything like that here in Essex.

Great t-shirt, hot showers, hot dogs, good beer, strange accents.

Thanks to everyone who was involved in organising the race. It was well worth the 5 hours round trip.

In short: What runing is all about
In full: I am probably biased as I am a Belper Harrier and this is my home turf, but this race is what running is all about. Challenging but rewarding and competitive but with friendliness and encouragement. Plus you have the outstanding scenery of the Derwent Valley that so often gets overlooked as it is in the Shadow of the Peak District. Great marshalling organised by the rugby club - perculiar distance markers notwithstanding.
After five miles of cramp I hobbled in at just over three hours, I cut my leg in two places, one of my contact lenses fell out in the woods (luckily I miraculously caught it)and I have just had to fork out £25 for a massage in order to be able to move today, but I honestly don't care. Where I can I sign up for next year?

In short: Do some hill training first!
In full: I signed up for this as my first off road race, my first race over half marathon distance and having done virtually no hill training in preparation. Oops! I managed to get round, but I won't claim it was easy. It gave me a chance to appreciate the route a little more as I struggled up some of the hills! Very enjoyable, but I'm definitely feeling it today.

In short: What a Fantastic experience
In full: Well, what can I say... good atmosphere... lovely crowd... awesome race, but my god, what about those hills... dont' do this as a first off road like I did...

However, I'll be back next year, only this time I'll be trying to win it me thinks... 8th this year ;-)
