In short: Loved it! The event ran like clockwork so as a runner it was stress free. Great warm up & course. The goody bag was excellent and I only missed mile 5 marker so no real probs. Many thanks to the organisers & supporters A++++++ Date of review: October 9, 2005

In short: A nice, flat course through some interesting parts of Pompey. Great for first-timers. The start was a bit congested though. In full: I really enjoyed today's run - the glorious weather certainly helped! Travel arrangements appeared to be well organised, though having my parents living only a 10-minute stroll from the start was obviously a bit of a bonus for me!
I've only done the Great West Run before today's event, and I found the Great South much more pleasant and easier.
Being very flat, I was hoping for a slightly better time than I actually achieved (1h 21m), but I blame part of this on a very slow first couple of miles due to congestion.
Also, I agree that some of the mile markers were very difficult to spot.
Overall though, I loved it and will definately be back (faster?!) next year.

In short: Echo all the preceding comments In full: Agree with the preceding comments - very well organised, flat course, Portsmouth an interesting place to see. Organisers only need to improve placing of mile markers. All in all, well done Date of review: October 9, 2005

In short: Expensive - but would do it again because it's on the doorstep In full: Mile markers obscured by spectators - not their fault! They need to be fastened to street furniture well above head height. Missed mile 5 completely ... and I know the course! Date of review: October 9, 2005

In short: Fantastic race, well organised. In full: My only complaint people running at a slow pace 4-5 abreast. Date of review: October 9, 2005

In short: Very well organised In full: I thoroughly enjoyed this race which took you through some interesting bits of Portsmouth especially the Naval Dockyard. The weather was superb as were the other competitors I met. Achieved my own PB despite not having a good running day and if you can afford it I recommend you try this one out. Its worth inviting your friends / family along as well for the scenic views. Date of review: October 9, 2005

In short: Another great south run! In full: This is on my home territory so I am perhaps a little biased, but having done other races big and small this is still the best one of the lot. Agree with comments that the crowds were quiter than usual, not sure why that might be though.
All in all everything was spot on, brilliant!!

In short: An exceptionally well organised race In full: I was really impressed by everything about the race. The wave system worked well, as per last year and we got away right on time. Plenty of water bottles at the two drinks stations and at the finish. Good quality tee shirt and best medal yet.
A nice touch was the helpers removing timing chips for those unable to reach down and remove them themselves.
There seemed far fewer cars on the common, so many must have taken the organisers advice, to park in the town centre. I was able to take advantage of a car share and we left the common without having to queue at the exit. The traffic was directed out of the city by a different route, which cut out the nose to tail traffic of previous years. There were police in evidence at crucial spots, which ensured a free traffic flow.
All in all, a superb effort, which the Great North Run would do well to take note. Date of review: October 9, 2005

In short: Great Race, Great Organisation - Crowd a bit quiet at times In full: 3rd year doing this one and seems to improve year on year. I got a wave one start position even though I was honest about my predicted time - 85mins. Stayed at the back of the wave and enjoyed a comfortabel run - too comfortable as my time was 90 mins. Still I needed to run another 10 miles in the afternoon as I'm doing the New York Marathon next month so my argument is that I was saving myself!!
The warm up was up to its usual standards - fantastic.
Visually impaired and wheelchair entrants were very motivating.
Car parking and exiting very well organised and I managed to get out on to the motorway in about 20mins - not bad.
Plenty of water available throughout but I agree that some of the mile markers were "hidden" or maybe had been pinched overnight.
Overall a great event. Date of review: October 9, 2005
