In short: Fantastic cheerleaders at the top of the last hill - very morale boosting In full: This was my first hilly 10k so I was slightly apprehensive especially when I practiced run the course in advance and really struggled on the hills. It is certainly very different running (at the back) of a group. A big thank you to the veteran with the Parkrun t-shirt, who gave me encouragement to get up the first steep hill when my legs were beginning to buckle and to start running long before I normally would. Another big thank you to the cheerleaders on the last hill - especially the little boy on the corner - who again encouraged me to continue running.
I finished very near the back, but was chuffed to nearly catch the 2 girls in front who had been miles in front of me at one stage - ah if that last road had been a longer slope, with no mean last up hill bit then who knows I might have caught them.
Definitely a "good feeling" run! Was the 2k marker in the right place though? All the others seemed so much shorter. Date of review: February 7, 2010
In short: 1st 10k must have been bananas but great fun In full: never run more than 5k before so was up for a challenge. and boy did i not realise the up and the down of this one. but throughly enjoyed it wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Date of review: February 7, 2010
In short: Challenging, muddy, fun In full: Have been running 10ks here & there for a few years. This was definitely the most challenging to date: the hills and the mud make for some aches and pains later in the day. I soon forgot any foolish notions of a PB and just enjoyed the scenery and the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it - particularly for those who are comfortable with the distance but looking for a bit more of a challenge. Extremely well organised too. Date of review: February 7, 2010
In short: mud glorious mud In full: Fantastic event from the start to finish the organisation was great, scenery brilliant, marshalls encouraging and the cheerleaders at the top of the 'last' hill invigorating.
First proper 10k and slightly apprehensive about the hard hilly course but soon relaxed and enjoyed the warm atmosphere, even the mud added to the experience. Thankfully it has all now gone down the plug hole!
Cannot recommend this event enough.
Well done to everyone who made it up and down the muddy Surrey hills. Date of review: February 7, 2010
In short: Slimy but fun In full: A very well organised race on a perfect day over a testing but good course. It was slimy and slippery in the wet chalk but not too difficult and I'm surprised I didn't get muddier than I was. Thanks to all the marshalls for directing traffic and being so encouraging.
