In short: Much improved on 2008. In full: Much improved on the 2008 course. Seemed less hilly than in previous years. Car parking was no problem. Free car park 5 mins walk away with loads of space. Well marshalled with plenty of well stocked drinks stations. Only minus point was the lack of mile markers. Date of review: September 7, 2009
In short: good but more runners needed in the full marathon In full: Wolverhampton really tries hard for this event, i think more should take part in the full marathon. I know Wolverhampton may not be as romantic as London or New york.....but its still the same distance ;) Date of review: September 7, 2009
In short: Not bad - I would do this again. In full: Having read last year's reviews re. the start and finish I was a little apprehensive, but in the end things were fine. I think it would still be a good idea to try and encourage some kind of line-up order based on expected finish times (the announcer was talking to someone in the first few rows who was aiming for 1:50).
The course itself, although pretty dull (winding its way through endless residential suburbia, often down narrow paths and with sharp twists and turns) is actually probably reasonably flat and fast. I noticed a couple of undulations, but nothing particularly challenging. I liked the t-shirt too. Date of review: September 7, 2009
In short: Thoroughly enjoyable run. Largely flat course, makeing for good PB potential In full: Overall an enjoyable and well organised event. Good beginner friendliness and PB potential. I felt a few more marshals were needed around the start of the 2nd leg. To support traffic management and general directions Date of review: September 7, 2009
In short: Well supported, well organised, well, erm, yes. In full: This is a classic undulating half, no problems (for me) with traffic, areas around main junctions were well staffed, friendly crowd, nice atmos. well worth a punt. Wouldn't fancy running another lap though for the marathon, I could imagine it would be tough, as the half marathon is so much bigger that the full race. Nearly got squashed by the pace car at the start, what were they thinking! Apart from that, nice job.... Date of review: September 7, 2009
In short: A well organised city marathon. Well done Wolverhampton In full: I think the organisers did everything they could to make this work well. People whingeing about the car parking should have looked into it before the morning and it was all of 5 minutes walk from the start - I don't see what else people could expect! And for a provincial marathon the support was very good - it had obviously been well publicised in the city.
Of course there is going to be traffic on the road - they can't shut down the whole of Wolverhampton for 6 hours!
I did the full marathon and there was good support throughout - NB the marshalls are there to direct runners, not act as cheerleaders, although most were encouraging. Date of review: September 7, 2009
