In short: Mud glorious mud, more mud, water, mud...great fun In full: I'm going to wear more suitable footwear next year (welly boots). Good atmosphere, well organised and great support from the marshalls. See you next year. Date of review: January 25, 2010
In short: Superb race In full: Top notch event. Benfleet has a reputation as a very well-run club and this race didn't disappoint. Was really muddy, but that just added to the fun. Superbly marshalled - special mention to TracyB who was enthusiastic throughout. Special thanks to Karl for a brilliant event.

In short: The sign in the sports hall said it all "If you cannot swim don't start this race". In full: I have been reduced to a gibbering wreck...not sure where it all went wrong...possibly the water jump at the first stile and then the near miss as I slid into a barbed wire fence, I didn't think there could be so many different kinds of mud until I took part in this event, but having fallen four times I think am pretty familiar with Hadleigh Downs. Favourite moment was coming across the sign that said "Keep to footpath, crop field" but you couldnt see where the field ended and the footpath began. All in all a really good race and I look forward to coming back next year.
Well done Benfleet for great organisation and the superb support and encouragement from the Marshalls.
In short: Muddy nice In full: Bit of a curious race: 12 miles of it are flat and fairly fast, with the occasional puddle, along tracks and a sea wall, but the middle 3 miles are on slippery, muddy tracks contouring along the side of a hill. Trail shoes are must, if you don't want to keep skittering off the track and its less of a matter of running but of moving as fast of possible while trying to stay upright.
Marshalls very friendly and plenty of encouragement. Overall organisation very good, although a few more toilets would be useful.
I've put it down as a "maybe" only because I have a preference for hilly courses, but it was very definitely a memorable (fun) experience. Date of review: January 25, 2010
In short: LOVED IT. In full: Most of this race is on shingle path with small amounts of mud and water. The middle section was however a different story for a lot of it i could not run and only just waddled through the mud. Trail shoes helped but these some became caked in mud and became like ice skates. I will definitly be back though probably will take spikes in a backpack for middle section. In short: Another fun Benfleet Mudfest! In full: Well done to the organisers for a great Benfleet 15. The course as promised was very muddy this year adding afew unusual challenges. The atmosphere on the route was brilliant and you have to laugh when you are up to your knees in mud. Not a race for PB chasers but if you like a bit of cross country then give this a go!
