In short: Why oh why oh why ? In full: Superb annual half marathon that really is the hardest in the UK - if you don't believe me then try it. Dr Rob organises a great runners race which is physically very demanding but extreemely euphoric when you have finished. The full Picnic marathon (2 laps of the midsummer munro) is next year , pls don't try this at home without proper experience and supervision ! I'll be there in 2011 Gaz Date of review: June 20, 2010

In short: you just can not help coming back year after year In full: without a doubt the toughest half out there but there is something so special about this race that makes you want to come back year after year. this was my 5th munro and every year i finish full of pride, with a happy feel good factor mainly from the encouragement from fellow runners. but the smile has gone this morning due to the aches and pains ! if you thought you only walked sideways done the stairs after a marathon then you have got to try this race. as always the organisation was fantastic , the medal and t shirt was great but most of all the marshalls were excellent. as mad as it might sound i cant wait for it to do it all again next year ( if the legs have recovered by then ... hehe ) Date of review: June 20, 2010

In short: I can still hear the bagpipes ! In full: Fantastic Race ! The best thing for me about the entire race was having a piper at the top of the first hill but also again on a hill at around the halfway point. He must have played his heart out ... I could immagine being called on by the pipers of The Highlanders and finding that extra ounce of courage and determination to keep going ... the pipes never stopped as you could hear them from about a quarter of a mile away calling you onward and no doubt every runner from a very spread out field experienced the same ... so a big thank you to the piper.
All the marshalls were superb and very enthusiastic .... thank you ... best marshalling I have ever experienced. Dr McCaffery a big thank you for amazing organisation and attention to detail.
The great thing about this race was the encouragement all runners gave to each other, the only way to experience something similar is to do it again next year !
Loved it all, on the return after dashing down the Chute, just found my legs were not happy, it is often at the bottom of downhill like that, that you wonder why the "engine" seems to have stopped working properly ... and so into the steps the second time and down to the stepping stones I was simply thinking just keep moving. Having the steps to climb back up was the best excuse anyone could have for walking as that is all anyone can do on the steps, but I am not sure I could have run even on the flat at this particular moment in the race. I was however, surprised to find that once I got back up to Mad Major's Grave the downhill back to the Start/Finish became a sprint which just built and built (well it felt like that anyway but at this point everything is relative) .... maybe simply because it would have taken more energy to try and stop gravity any more than was necessary to prevent falling over ! That last downhill stretch to the finish does however leave you on a huge high in time to collect the medal with a big smile on the face ! I was grinning from ear to ear ... I'll be back next year.
Thanks again Dr Rob. Date of review: June 20, 2010

In short: Another of Dr Rob's evil extravaganzas In full: Brutal drops and climbs, fantastic views from the top, great atmosphere, cheery marshals with jelly babies, great goody bag, bagpiper on the course, picnic spread at the finish ... a great event in every way and a real challenge. "Only" a half marathon but equivalent in effort to something nearer to 20 miles, I would say. Avoid steps and gradients for a day or so after doing this one. Flawless organization and a great day out. Roll on next year! Date of review: June 20, 2010

In short: to die for - almost literally! In full: I knew this would be tough, and it certainly didn't disappoint.......fantastically hard, but worth every second of pain for the self-satisfaction and sense of achievement at the end....... will definitely be back! Date of review: June 20, 2010

In short: Beautifully Agonising In full: I Really should see a psychiatrist i must be mental! my second trionium event after leith hill and as expected the organisation and marshalling were excellent as for the run itself what a real test of your character i truly hated part of the course (steps) and relished in others i kept asking myself why i was doing it but i have no answers!! i just know i want to do it again, my only gripe being the lack of xxl tshirts for my large frame Date of review: June 20, 2010
