In short: Superb autumn marathon In full: I have travelled up from Bedfordshire to run the MBA Chester Marathon in 2012, 2013 and 2014. That says it all really. It is a fantastic marathon with great PB potential. Date of review: October 9, 2014
In short: Lives up to its great reputation In full: Loved every moment - up to 21 miles... I thought the placement of timing points and drink stations were clever to keep us motivated. I deliberately paced myself just ahead of the 4.45 pacers who did a brilliant job. Easier 14-18miles than Ive ever experienced, but I feel you do make up for it with a memory of 21-24 miles having more inclines than i expected. Therefore, a fair course overall, great organisation out on the course... Trying to delay entering too early, but i can see me returning! Date of review: October 8, 2014
In short: Brilliant again In full: This was my third Chester Marathon - the only marathon I have done. The event is super well organised that I know that if I went anywhere else, it would be a let-down in comparison.
Race HQ - Chester racecourse - is scenic, spacious and right next to the city centre. The route takes you through the city centre and then out into the Cheshire countryside before returning to the racecourse finish. All along mostly-flat closed roads. Everything works like clockwork. Plenty of spectator opportunities: my wife and child caught me at 1, 6 and 16 miles as well as my finish in a PB of 3:44. Plenty of support in local villages.
Day now includes a kilothon (26.2 km), which is a nice addition but did make it impractical for my daughter to do the fun run, which started after the start of the kilothon and still be able to make it to all this spectator points. But overall, defo 5 star race! Date of review: October 8, 2014
In short: Great race - the organisers thought of everything a runnier could need. In full: Really excellent. Bottled water ever 3 miles and energy drinks at every second drinks station were very well manned by enthusiastic volunteers. Loved the vocal and encouraging marshals. TOILETS at many of the water stations.... amazingly, as they were there, I didn't need them - if they hadn't been there, I bet I'd have been busting! Great that gels were supplied too. Really well organised for rubbish collection too .... lots of large containers at intervals after the drinks. (I hate littering and find it annoying that some runners still chucked gel packets in the road... but you can't help that - you did all you could to make it easy to dispose responsibly). Great support from the public. Excellent medal, finishers top and goody bag. Super supportive commentary. Very good. If I decide to do another marathon, I'd do this one again :-) Well done and thank you. Date of review: October 8, 2014
In short: Really well organised, well supported and great fun In full: My first marathon and it really lived up to its potential as a runners' favourite. It is exceptionally well organised with a lovely course that works its way through villages on the Welsh and English border. The people who came out and supported the runners were magnificent, as were the marshals and those on the regular drinks stations. The course is largely flat with a few hills, including one near the end but by then the knowledge you've nearly finished with carry you through. I can't rate this highly enough. In short: Superb event - couldn't find fault! In full: everything from start to finish was excellent - baggage, commentary, numerous toilets, superb scenery, support from volunteers and locals etc etc ...... will definitely consider returning even though this was meant to be the last :-)
thanks to everyone involved in making it such a success. Date of review: October 8, 2014
In short: Brilliant friendly inclusive marathon for runners of all abilities. In full: This was my first Marathon and I can't fault the organisation. Loads of toilets at the start and on the route. Plenty of drink stations, providing water, sports drinks and gels. Great support pre-event: training plans, ppts with advice. Fab marshalls and volunteers. Pace setters. Great medal and T-shirt. In short: My 1st ever marathon In full: My 1st foray into the world of marathons and have to commend the organisers. The support from the people of Chester and surrounding villages was astonishing. Many thanks to all that cheered us on....esp at 24.5 miles. I was nearly finished after that incline but with the help from the missus and the lovely crowd, I made it. Have said I won't do another (as I think my distance is 10k - half marathons) but might be persuaded to do this one again. A brilliant day and brilliant event! Date of review: October 8, 2014
