In short: It wouldn't be marlow half without a little rain.every year the marshalls amaze me with their wonderfull support.THANK YOU i had great time, see you next year. Date of review: November 3, 2009
In short: BRILL! In full: This is one of my best halfs! i always look foward to doing this race its a real gem of a course. The rain only added to the fun on the run itself, i was 5 minutes slower than last year so im blaming the leafs and wet roads on the down hill bits as i was on the brakes the whole time! Well done again Marlow Striders brill top as well ... Date of review: November 3, 2009
In short: Hilly, wet and tough but still worth it! In full: To be honest, when I woke up and saw the weather out the window I very nearly pulled the covers back up and went back to sleep. It really makes you question your sanity when you're getting up at 8am on a Sunday to run 13 miles in heavy rain up steep hills and you've paid for the privilege! But by the time I crossed the finish line I already wanted to sign up again for next year.
This race was extremely well organised, excellently marshalled and has a very friendly atmosphere. There's even a plasma screen at the end so you can see your official time straight away. The course itself is pretty tough with a steady uphill start and two very sharp climbs at around the 8 and 11 mile points but on the plus side there's lots of lovely Chiltern countryside and woods to take your mind off the pain and the last mile and a half is all downhill. Will definitely be doing this one again. Date of review: November 3, 2009
In short: First time Marathon - So achieved my PB. In full: appaul, ing weather made this even more challanging for a first time marathon. now i have a baseline, i have to do it again to see if i can improve on my time. Date of review: November 3, 2009
In short: tougie, and the wind and rain added value In full: I feel better today to talk about this on Sunday and Monday I felt a bit sorry for myself. Beautiful part of the country. Date of review: November 3, 2009
In short: Cleary a good race but conditions not great yesterday In full: I enjoyed the day despite the conditions. However, there were one or two organisational issues: (a) the lack of saftey pins; and (b) worse - lack of showers when they had been advertised in the literature and even a marshall told me I could get a nice hot shower at the Marlow striders club house. However, when I walked down there, it was all locked up and several other runners were changing on the verandah! Date of review: November 2, 2009
In short: Driving rain, headwinds, deep puddles, hills = great challenge! In full: This is a really tough one, but ultimately somewhat satisfying! The atmosphere is always good and the support and encouragement from the Marshalls and others never ceases to amaze me, as they endured the rain and wind for longer than most had to! Autumnal Chiltern scenery is wonderful. The winding hill at 8 miles burns the calves, and the one at 11 miles reminds you that you are not home yet! Great 1.5 mile downhill to the finish. Well organised. Will be back! Date of review: November 2, 2009
