In short: Please GNR go and have a look at how London pens the runners to enable everyone to have a fair crack of the wip. Far too many walkers and plodders up front to make a race viable. 3 starts perhaps??? never again.

In short: Great atmosphere but getting too big
In full: My first GNR and a fantastic experience.

I made it to the finish line before my family who spent 3 hours on the Metro which was a shame. The walkers in the 8 minute mile section were a pain but they can't be blamed as the pre-race blurb and signs on the day could have made it a bit clearer that you were expected to assemble by pace.

That said - roll on next year

In short: Far from the great atmostphere i'd been told about...
In full: Everyone told me that you don't do the GNR for a PB, you do it for the fun. Well, it had its moments - the tyne bridge, the red arrows, the bands, seeing the sea at the end - but for the most part it was a pretty soulless plod around the housing estates of newcastle. More bands (where was the one to carry us over the finish line?) more water and definitely more toilets! Really shoddy organising, and don't get me started on the transport. Get a fleet of coaches to take people back to town!

In short: My first half marathon and a fantastic experience.
In full: Yes the crowds made it difficult to get a good start, yes the walkers did get in the way, yes the hill at mile 11 was a nasty surprise, yes my legs have been agony for 3 days and I've lost a toenail, but it was, without doubt the most fantastic running experience I have ever had - see you all again next year!

In short: Lack of organisation at the start resulted in everyone being caged into a very small section and led to a somewhat chaotic first two miles, after that it was better, great red arrows display at the end.

In short: Fun race but overcrowded. Big downside was how to get home from Sout Sheilds without qeueing 4 hours for the metro.
