In short: Clockwork In full: Considering the number of runners, the organisation is amazing. Yes the loos are a bit awful, but they're portaloos, they're always awful. My only bad point for this event was the 2+ hours waiting around at the start after being dropped off by the bus. But far mroe good points to out weight this. Seeing the Red Arrows fly over you while your running is awe inspiring. Great crowd support. The only thing stopping me doing it again is the time and distance from home and the expense of hotels etc. If it was in my area, I'd do it every year I think. Date of review: September 20, 2010

In short: Great race, shame about the rain In full: I have been looking to do this race for years and never managed to get in - glad I made it for the 30th year!
Given the size the organisation was fine, the buses at the end were problematic and the transport firm should have had tents up selling tickets rather than getting on the bus to speed things up. Or given the size of the event provide free travel for those with race numbers like Hamburg do for their marathon.
Would definitely do it again Date of review: September 20, 2010

In short: Unique and very special with a few points for improvement In full: Once more what a great race and a special atmosphere. Make the most of the day before at the Quay side with the City Games, the junior runs and the Scenery of the Tyne. Few things to get better, portaloos were grim, and in particular I was disappointed that Powerade choose to give us their new non-calorie drink when I needed full fat sugar!!! Thanks to the Wonderful people of the North East how make it very special in deed Date of review: September 20, 2010

In short: Well organised and great crowd support - route was a bit dull In full: If I lived closer I would probably do it again. But it's a long way to go to run on dual carriage ways for most of the way. The scenery was dull and not much to see.
The crowds though were great - some of the best support ever.
Compared to London Marathon though, I found it a bit chaotic (especially baggae store) and at the end of the race. Date of review: September 20, 2010

In short: Another year, another great GNR In full: Long time runner of GNR, I still love it. Yes, it's big, yes slower runners get in your way, and yes, the transport at the end can be a mare. It's not to everyones tastes. But... it was my first half, and I still love it, warts and all. The atmosphere is amazing, the people fantastic, and it's a great day out. Plus this year the sun wasn't shining, which helped me get a new course PB. I'll be back next year. Date of review: September 20, 2010

In short: Fabulous race !!! In full: Super race, fantastic crowd support and great organisation. REALLY enjoyed my first ever GNR and even managed to "high-five" Declan Donnelly" at the start which set me up nicely for the run. The crowds really were fantastic giving lots of encouragement and various goodies out at many spots around the course. The Red Arrows at South Shields afterwards capped off a really great day out, pity that the downpour came tho. Date of review: September 19, 2010

In short: Greeeeeaaaaatttttt North Run! In full: I really enjoyed the atmosphere, a very different race experience. Spent 10 miles waiting for the runners to thin out before realising this wasn't going to happen. Just accept it's not going to be a pb race and enjoy running as a group. Listen to the footfalls of the runners around and relax into it. Glad I did it, I won't be back but only due to distance from home and the size of the field. Wonderful support from the locals and the aaah moment cresting the hill just before mile 12. Lovely day out! Date of review: September 19, 2010
