In short: No complaints apart from the weather!! In full: Agree with previous comments, more toilets required on London Road, and PLEASE can i have a t-shirt that fits could get two of me in the small, wish they would cater for ladies!!
Apart from that thought it very well organised, workers and supporters outstanding and finish area much improved. Praying for rain next year. Date of review: May 29, 2012

In short: What fantastic local support In full: I pb'd at the race and achieved my goal of sub 3 hours which means I never have to run a marathon again!! hurrah to that. I couldn't beleive the support along the way, the people were fantastic, rigging up hosepipes from their homes to cool us down and cheering and shouting like their lives depended upon it. Really kept me going and I wouldn't have pushed myself on had it not been for the support. Personally, I thought that the oragnisation and atmosphere were great. My only gripe was leaving the medal collection area and really struggling to find the baggage area as a first timer - signage could have been much better. I only say this because I couldn't really walk and was very dazed so somethign mroe obvious would have helped. Date of review: May 29, 2012

In short: Getting better but still not value for money In full: It was my second year doing it and there was definetely improvement from last year but the organisers have a bit more work to do to make it excellent race.
I can't believe some runners are complaining about weather and not being enough shade...not a lot the organisers can do about that one I'm afraid. If we want to keep on complaining about British weather we could go on for hours and hours :D
There was plenty of water this year and I'm always taking my own energy stuff with me so I wasn't really bothered about there not being enough gels etc. I don't trust what they give on the day anyway and prefer to use my own things that I konw will work with my stomach.
There were too few toilets at the start. There is space for more and with the amount of runners they are getting in they should double if not triple the amount of loos at the start. People must have been late to the start line.
The course...it's nice and easy and definetely better second time around when you know what's coming. For people wanting to run in Edinburgh City Centre I'd recommend Rock'n Roll half marathon which I think is run in April. It's more scenic, very hilly and no chance for PB. I personally do prefer running away from the city and the cool breeze from the sea was nice.
I'm planning to do it again next year. Date of review: May 29, 2012

In short: First marathon and that made it special for me! Would definately recommend for 1st timers. Fairly flat route, great crowds, great scenery, loved the hose pipes from, the crowds. I agree with commends about the relay runners flying by when you are dig Date of review: May 29, 2012

In short: Capital Punishment In full: Second and definitely the last time i have done this race unless there are fundamental changes. 1) The start time is too late for the time of year. 2) The relay runners make it confusing and soul destroying 3) The course has ridiculous bits of doubling back and sharp turns it needs a rethink and a country's capital city marathon should end in the city. 4) walking miles to get to your relay bus 5) I got my race number delivered the day before the race after I had arrived for the race necessitating a trip to get a replacement i could have done, without after ten hours travelling 6) The medal is disgusting - The organisers are juggling too many events in one weekend Date of review: May 29, 2012

In short: Big improvement on 2011 In full: Challenging race with the weather this year. Great on course local support with water guns and hoses much appreciated. Much better finish with loads of space to collapse in a heap. Buses were great when you got to them but too far a walk - I felt I was doing an ultramarathon! Baggage lorries were efficient. Could do with another water station up by the farm and bring back the lucozade.
Like others the relay particularly the final leg joining was annoying and dispiriting when you're 20 miles in, sunburnt and knackered. It's a marathon - the only people who deserve to be on the course at this point are those who have run the distance - that's what makes a marathon different and a distance to aspire to! I realise it's not the runners fault but if a relay is needed why not run it as a separate event - after all this is the Edinburgh marathon festival and it advertises as a 2 day festival of running. Run the marathon as a stand alone event please - I then know the people I'm lining up with and running with are prepared to endure the same as me!! Date of review: May 28, 2012

In short: Great course. Very dependent on conditions In full: As many have said they really should start this race at 8am and either ditch the unnecessary half ( there's another Edinburgh half in April which used to be over an almost identical course), set the half runners off at same time (like Leicester) or do the half on sat as a double loop of the 10k course. 3 of the last 5 years it's been hot - not rocket science to work out that it seems to be a recurring theme. The organisers really listened and learned to sort out the disgrace that was last year's finish debacle so people power can work after all! Might do it again but it's getting competition now with new UK spring races so needs to keep up to maintain a good number of entrants. Don't come if you want to see Edinburgh - save that for another trip Date of review: May 28, 2012

In short: A nice race which could do with improvements In full: As my second marathon (1st being London) in view of the entry fee I expected better organisation. I was fully aware it wouldn't compete with London however signage was the same as a local 10k and there wasn't a clock at halfway which would be helpful. Also as someone who had never been too Edinburgh clearer guidance on how to get to the start would be good. On the plus side though the marshalls and crowd were great, hoses much appreciated, an electrolite drink station was needed however plenty of water. Baggage ran super smooth and signs high up for meet and greet would help. Date of review: May 28, 2012

In short: Better than 2011 In full: My second Edinburgh marathon, better than 2011 but still can do better. The weather did not help but than is not the fault of EMF, but an earlier start should be in place next year. The relay runners are a pain, one nearly knocked me over to get to a water station. The water stations and marshalls were good and the crowds were also good. The finish was much better, but still needs improvement, signage needs improvement, goody bags were disappointing. Shame that we did not see much of the city, a great shame as Edinburgh is a nice city to look round. Done it twice now but no more. Date of review: May 28, 2012
