In short: Great Race, good support In full: This was my first 10 mile race and loved the support and atmosphere on the way round. Found the last two miles pretty tough along the sea front due to the windy conditions. With regards to travelling: I travelled along way for this and stayed at a hotel just 4 miles from Southsea the night before - and it took nearly an hour to get the car park at Southsea on the Sunday morning.
The carpark was a real 'mare' to get out of at the end -we delayed our exit by 2 hours and it took 1.30 hours as we had to get out as due to distance we needed to get away.
Next year I will stay at a hotel in the centre of Portsmouth and avoid this problem.
All in enjoyed the race but felt let down by the car parking debacle at the end. Date of review: October 26, 2009
In full: All the great stuff you expect from the big events - even great weather Only down side was baggage storage was not secure, and a bit pricey - but overall enjoyed it Date of review: October 26, 2009
In short: A nice big event race to do, not much for £30 entry though! In full: Well organised, lots of marshalls, windy at times on course but as expected on a coast run, lots of support all way round. Baggage area was not manned, £30 entry they should have a manned baggage area. £30 entry, basic t-shirt and medal - alot of money for very little!
In short: Great race, but could someone remember the key for the car park gate! In full: Great race and helped me lift my mood from a miserable week in bed with the cold and almost even got a PB despite not being in full fitness.
Not much to top the organisation, but would like to see more speakers from mile 8 onwards, especially if the weather is naff like in 2008. Only one other thing, as a fast runner, I was disappointed that I wasn't able to get a quick getaway from the Southsea car park as they had lost the key to the gate for the only exit. I think a backup plan \ diversion should have been in place as most of the other organisation was 100% spot on! Date of review: October 26, 2009
In short: Great organisation - fantastic charity support In full: Didn't enjoy the first mile - too many people with hopeful times to dodge. Last 2 miles into the wind were horrid. Nice run, though. Date of review: October 26, 2009
In short: Excellent again but people please choose the right wave In full: Excellent course and organisation with great PB potential if it wasnt for the amount of people in the wrong wave. I was in orange c but was stuck behind very slow runners for the first 4k. Even overtook people walking after 2k! Had to run far too quick between 4 and 6 to even get close to my PB. Will do again though Date of review: October 26, 2009
In full: I really enjoyed this race, although like others it was pretty frustrating having so many walking very early on. I was in white wave B, but saw many others in the wave who should have been in other waves...but a lovely sunny day and great atmosphere. Enjoyed the music over the course. Got there by train, which was a breeze and would suggest all those moaning about the car parking do the same! Date of review: October 26, 2009
In short: potentially a fast flat race with great scenery In full: Despite being in orange wave (c) I had a really slow start there were people walking even before the 5km mark and many other slow runners that were difficult to pass so that was my PB out the window! I am sure i also saw white and green numbers mixed in with the orange people too!
Apart from the starting waves the other organisation was great, i loved the run through shower it was a great relief on a hot day! The free massage and people handing out jelly babies was also great!
The last couple of miles were into strong wind but at least it was sunny and there was a great view!
As for the parking, I parked on the common walked to gunwarf after the race for a meal and by the time I returned the roads were clear!
For such a large event it ran pretty smoothly! Date of review: October 26, 2009
