In short: Again! In full: First time marathoner, didn't get the time I was hoping for as took it easy in the heat and am really proud that I ran the whole way- albeit very slowly. Thought the course was lovely, though the hills at the end and the extra bit at the end of Promenade at Portobello was a bit soul destroying at the end- thank goodness for the hose pipes. Atmosphere at the end was still great even when I staggered across the line. Thanks to the brave massage people who I'm sure had to deal with some pretty manky feet!!! Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: too hot to run but still finished with a smile In full: More toilets needed at beginning and throughout course. Had to queue for about 5 - 10 mins during race, not ideal. Marshalls and supporters excellent but could have done with some bands or bagpipes during race to keep me going. Hosepipes near end fab. Much slower time than I hoped but it was my first marathon and I did finish it! Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: Hot and little more hills than i expected! In full: Apart from the heat and those hills in the last three miles i thought it was a great course, really quick for the first 20. knocked over 30 mins off my London time last year!
Could've done with regular water stations, they seemed a little erratic to me. More toilets at the start and better mile markers would've been helpful, i'm just glad i was using my Garmin.
Overall i really enjoyed the race and would defintely do it again. Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: Great race, despite the temperature! In full: This was my frst full marathon and first trip to Scotland.Although the weather was warmer than I'd trained for, I had a good run and would definitley do it again. The spectators who were giving out jelly babies, lollies and those who had their garden hoses out were amazing and really helped contribute to a great day! I had such a good time that my training partner and I decided on the day to go and do Dublin in October! Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: This was my first marathon and despite the hills, the heat I truly loved it. The Edinburgh folk were wonderful, the atmosphere heart warming and best of all I completed it and rounded it off in a pub with The RW Edinburgh Forum green ribbon gang. Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: beautiful scenery In full: I found this to be a great race. Edinburgh was absolutely beautiful and certain views on the course in the sunshine(esp that of Arthur's seat) left me positively beaming. But that said i did do most of my training runs around Hackney in London so the difference was really stark! Thought I would feel awful in the heat, but it was ok. Water stations were frequent enough and the families who had set up sprinklers near the end were real stars! The only thing that got me was the gentle downhill gradient in the first few miles which I hadn't expected and caused my hips to really stiffen. Only my second marathon so don't have much to compare to but the organisation seemed very good to me. didn't have the probs with relay runners some described - but I was in the 4hour pen. I owuld suggest including safety pins in packs as I had forgotten mine and the shops near the expo had sold out of them. Beat my last time by an unexpected 25 mins so do think the course has good PB potential. Volunteers were really positive - thanks to the guy who urged me to keep going when i was obviously looking uncomfortable. The hot weather stopped me needing my usual loo break, but I did notice some runners having to dash into undergrowth so perhaps more portaloos would be good. Appreciated the bit when the course double backed on itself as I was able to see the elite kenyan runners at race past. Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: Despite very hot day plenty of drink stations available and a great atmosphere In full: This is the 1st time in Edinburgh Marathon but despite being hottest day of year i loved every minute of run. The scenery was fantastic as were the volunteers and crowds. I also ran my PB by 8 minutes Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: Heat extravaganza. In full: It was so hot and there was good support, the folk with the hosepipes in the last three miles were a godsend. There were hardly any loos on the course. The gripe about the different flavoured drinks wasn't a problem to me, I HATED the orange lucozade in London (too strong), so the fact that you could choose was great! The Expo was a right pain in the backside, having to drive an hour to pick up number to drive an hour home. Recorded post is a couple of pounds... All in all, the course was good and the crowds were very supportive. Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: Crowds excellent this year kept me going knocked off 6 mins a PB In full: Heat did not help, lack of toilets at start (park came in handy). Plenty of drinks available on route, but only one bottle of water allowed at the end could have done with more. Looking forward to next year. Date of review: June 13, 2006
