In short: A decent enough event - will do it next year In full: No major problems for me.
Sure, the start is congested, the scenery dull and the finish even more congested (and 'policed' by at least one continually rude marshall)but these aren't factors likely to seriously ruin anyone's day.
The course is pretty flat, there's a good 'big event' feel to it, it welcomes all standards, theres plenty of support and it helps a good cause.
I'll certainly do it again next year. Date of review: November 27, 2006
In short: Good effort- needed more organisation. In full: As others have said, organisation could have been better at the start and no water stations. BUT, really nice flat course with good pb potential and the crowd and organisers were really supportive. And there were KM markers! Will definately be back next year! In short: Good atmosphere and a great course for novices In full: Agree that the starting street for the race was perhaps a little too narrow. Also couldn't hear anything that was said over the loudspeaker. . Other than that, the course was fairly self explanatory; a straight run out of town and back. Drinks would have been welcome for the last 5km. Good support and a fast course! Date of review: November 27, 2006
In short: Good fun, good speed In full: I started near the back so had no problems with congestion. The course itself was fine. My only issues were a lack of signposting between the start and the town hall for the directionally challenged like myself, plus they had run out of small t-shirts by the time I finished- which was a pity. But otherwise, I enjoyed the course, and luckily the cool weather meant that the lack of water wasn't missed. I'll seriously consider doing it again next year. Date of review: November 27, 2006
In short: NO WATER STATION !! In full: Wonderfully organised, except no water station otherwise would have been perfect. Great level course, scenery is interesting for city centre with the bonus at looking at the better runners as they head bad to the finish. Knocked 3mins of my PB (65:25) and actually ran ALL the way !!, bloody good for a broken down 19st 53-year old. Will definite do this one again. Date of review: November 27, 2006
In short: First ever race, not a regular runner. Hopefully will be now..! In full: I really enjoyed the event though I have nothing to compare it to. The start was a strange experience as a beginner, as I passed so many people and assumed i'd gone off too quickly..! Marshalls were great and encouraged people along the way. It all left me with a warm feeling and i'll be back next year, with hopefully a years worth of running under my belt. Date of review: November 26, 2006
In short: Chaotic start - no km markers - where was the water station In full: The start was chaotic - I was reasonably near the front and still took 3 mins to get to start line only to then have to fight past the slower runners. I agree with other posters - the starting street is too narrow. Also, I saw no km markers other than the 5km which you obviously knew anyway as you turned to head back into town. And no water ststion. that said, a great course for a PB and despite the crowds I managed a PB wioth my first sub 50 min 10km. I qould probably do again but I would have to be convinced the organisation at the start was better. Date of review: November 26, 2006
In short: Good for a first 10k very flat and not intimidating with a good mix of ability. In full: My first 10k and was v. pleased with my time. It was a fairly easy flat straight out and back. I know what people are saying about the start being chaotic and slowing runners getting in the way but in our defense I only saw one sign for the predicted times (35-40mins) so hung well back but obviously not far enough back - sorry! In short: Fast and Furious In full: 2nd time that I've done this one, and it seemed to be a better organised start this time with not quite so many pantomine cows in the sub-40 minute pen. Missed a pb by 3 (three) seconds and still can't quite believe it. Gutted. Time to take up triathlon... Date of review: November 26, 2006
