In full: This was my first half marathon. Found the course quite tough and glad I was wearing trail shoes! All in all enjoyed the experience and will be back again. Thought the organisation was good, scenery absolutely beautiful and mashalls very encouraging. Might be a small race but even for first timer felt it was very welcoming. In short: Beautiful course, great weather - a great event In full: A well organised route through stunning countryside. Various gates and soft conditions underfoot meant that this was never going to be a PB occasion, but the scenery and friendly marshals more than made up. Facilities both pre and post race were excellent.
Only jarring note was the officious Bisham Abbey employee who told my wife in no uncertain terms that our dog was not allowed on the premises and would have to leave. This was despite minimal signage and the fact that they had been on site for 2 hours before being hustled out and missing the finish. This was a Bisham Abbey employee rather than any race official, who were excellent - someone should have a word. Date of review: March 22, 2010
In short: Gorgeous, friendly and very enjoyable half. In full: Not a fast course as it's offroad, muddy in places and with gates to negotiate but beautiful scenery, lovely atmosphere and great marshalls. There should be more races like this one. Date of review: March 22, 2010
In full: A very scenic route along the river & a nice change to run on softer ground (mind out for tree roots!). The marshalls were brilliant and gave encouragement the whole way round. The only improvement from my point of view would be to have energy drinks & something like jelly babies on the route like other races as 13 miles is a long way to run on just water. In short: Challenging terrain made PBs out of the question but fantastic scenery and something a little bit differenmt made this a thoroughly enjoyable race that I would do again Date of review: March 22, 2010
In short: Superb race, friendly, challenging, fun and brilliant for the whole family In full: I did this race last year and did not hesitate on coming back. I live locally so it was easy to walk to the race. This is a race for the whole family. The race itself is scenic and challenging with a few gates and bridges over the river. Lovely views as you run out along the river and back. Organisation is superb and while I was out running the kids had their own race getting their own medals and T-shirts and then had a game of football with some other kids so really was a family occassion. The BBQ was nice afterwards as well so it really made the whole event a great occassion. Marshalls were brilliant and really encouraging. Certainly one for the yearly calendar. Well done Purple Patch, all for a great cause as well. Date of review: March 22, 2010
