In short: It's the people who make it what it is! In full: Several aspects of the GNR really hack me off, the cost, the blatant self promotion of the organisers and many of the minor celebs who take part. On the other hand, running from Zone D because I didn't fell up to my Zone B start, I saw the better side of the event - the crowds of supporters with oranges, tea, icepops, water and just being there. On top of that, the runners themselves add so much through their commitment and energy. Not a race I'll ever get a pb but one which offers other attractions. Date of review: September 18, 2011
In short: Wonderful atmosphere! In full: Theres probably not much to say that people dont already know..... The atmosphere was incredible - having the Red Arrows and Mo Farrah start your race is really something special! I dont know how they do it with so many people but the organisation was flawless. The finish is certainly the scenic highlight of the course - beautiful! A great race! Date of review: September 18, 2011
In short: Electrifying start In full: Just superb. I'm a seasoned marathon & half marathon runner, and have never seen such an unbelievably slick, high energy start. Of course a big race always needs more toilets, and this is especially true of the GNR.
Would love to do it next year. Highly recommended.
In short: A great race to experience In full: My first half marathon and one I will remember for the rest of my life. Being from the North East I felt very proud to be apart of this race. Great race from start to finish and I have to agree the Red Arrows flew across as I crossed the finish line, looking forward to doing it again this year Date of review: May 24, 2011
In short: Incredibly overcrowded but well supported and a great atmosphere. In full: I'm an average runner so I was in the 7th pen back from the start line, the atmosphere before the race was fantastic and getting a high five from Ant & Dec as I went over the start line made my week! My only grumble is that I found the whole course overcrowded from start to finish, spent alot of time and energy either going round or squeezing past people. However, having the Red Arrows fly over the bridge as I was on it is something I will remember forever... Date of review: January 26, 2011
In short: Fantastic atmosphere and support, brilliant HM In full: This was my second HM and was really excited to get a place in the GNR. I loved it, the local support was great and the entertainment made the miles pass quicker. The only thing i wasn't prepared for was the constant weaving in and out of people walking from mile one, I started in a middle block so I was annoyed as I thought they should have at least started at the back. I would recommend any runner to give this race a go. Date of review: January 7, 2011
