In short: Great race and a PB! In full: This was my 1st half, last year - run with the dregs of man flu, so the time didn't stand too long. Figured I had to come back, some 'unfinished business'
Anyway, glad I did. Another runner with a new PB by 6:44
Loved the sick sense of humour around the 10 mile mark "last water for 10 miles", "Sponges 50p", wet sponges £1", "bike hire £5" etc - expected to see Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers standing menacingly with a machete 30 yards into the woods....
The runs great, parkings easy, 'T' shirts are a definite cut above the usual Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Undulating start but a quick course In full: Enjoyed it last year so I came back for more!
Well organised and they used the Halloween theme to good effect culminating in a nice t-shirt (in a sparse goody bag). Love the finish with the downhill and great support. Most of the marshalls were good too. Another PB for me, as I did last year too!
In short: Loved it In full: Well of course I am going to be happy because I set a new PB on this run, but apart from that I was pleasantly surprised. I really didn't expect it to be as good as it was. I will definietly be back next year. And yeah it did seem hilly in the first part, which I should have known really as I used to drive that route into Worksop everyday Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Great organisation, semi tough hills and beautiful scenery In full: Some challenging hills but the scenery compensates for this twice over. I plan to make this an annual event in my running calendar, Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Don't miss a trick, this is a treat In full: This race killed me last year. Seriously. They had to send my body back to my parents after it was found in a ditch at the side of the route. It took so long, even my clubmates had gone home. This year... the plan was to take 1/2 hour off that time. I managed 35 minutes. But that's not the point. The race overall was very well organised; the route is rolling hills through Clumber Park (woods) and town... The tshirt is halloweeeny and has my name on it (and those of several hundred other people!). The chip and pin part worked well and the race really was a treat! Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: If you only do one half marathon next year choose this one! In full: I love this race. Have run it several times and always do well. Love the scenery. The people who make it happen and run smoothly do a fantastic job. I'll be putting this one on the calendar for next year. Got a PB this year so feeling very happy today! In short: One of the best organised half marathons around! In full: Brilliant event, especially as it was traffic free....well done to the Police & Local Authority for continuing their support (Newark take note).
Everyone was so friendly & the humourous signs (short cut maps £2.50 etc), was an inspired touch by someone as was the Halloween theme.
....no wonder it was a record entry...so well done again to everyone who made the event possible. Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Hillier than expected! In full: The first four miles are very hilly (big steep hills)! After that, it's a very nice run through Clumber Park. Excellent t-shirt, no medal but that's reflected in the price.
The only issue was that possibly the start could be colour coded for times expected as there were lots of runners in the Under 1 hr 30 & 1 hour 40 who clearly weren't that fast and it caused a lot of congestion for the first mile or so, but I'm nit picking. Date of review: October 31, 2010
