In short: Had a bad feeling about this when the numbers were mixed up. The lack of signing around the city to get to the start (and the fact it was on a side street) made it stressful at the beginning. No water either. How much was it again? £17?! Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Others have said it. Needs better (any?) organisation at start. In full: Good marshaling on the way around, fast course, a good cause... but they need to sort out the start. 5k of trying to get past people who started in the wrong place (probably because they were not instructed otherwise) isn't fun. Second half was a bit better. Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning but where were the K markers? In full: Watch time. Don't know what went wrong with my warm up. Within 5 strides of the start my calf muscles locked up. I nearly stopped but after 5 minutes they eased off. Either I missed the K markers or they were not there (other than 1 & 5 K).Felt pretty grim after 15 minutes after the turn - felt worse because I didn't know how far I had to go. Came as a relief to realise I how close I was to the finish and pleased with the result which is only 3 seconds outside my PB. Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Poor start and finish organisation spoilt a good day. In full: The start needs to be moved to a bigger area. 5,500 people in a sidestreet with a 90 degree turn after 100m is a recipe for disaster. There were no estimated start times so there were (as always) slow runners in the path of faster ones. It's always going to happen but with some better signage at the start and better info in the pack it could be improved upon. The finish was slightly better but still chaotic. But the bag storage was well handled.
If there were any mile/km markers (I'm told there were) I didn't see them. Bigger next time? And miles too, I've heard they were all in KMs, some of us older folks can't do metric!!! Mile signs please.
The T-Shirt is usable so no gripe there and I can understand why no goody bags etc as it's a pure charity event.
But my usual gripe has surfaced again. StJohn's/Red Cross etc were conspicuous by their absence. 5,500 and many of them as novices can and will have medical probs (I saw 2 go down badly). Medical cover for these events has to take a higher priority.
I'll be back though. Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Good flat 10k. Marshals helpful and supportive. A water station at 5km would have been good. Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Usual chaos at start & finish... In full: Becoming hopelessly overwhelmed by the numbers running with the finish area totally inadequate. Harsh? - yes, but it does spoil a potentially excellent event due to a flat & fast course out to Kirkstall Abbey and back with enthusiastic marshalls. I stopped entering the GNR for the same reasons as I got a bit fed up with dodging in and out of other runners for mile after mile. The one announcement I did hear over the ineffective tannoy system was that the start's moving to outside the Town Hall which should help, but what about the finish? The runners themselves have a lot to answer for by starting too near the front and ignoring others and by clogging up the finish at the end when they should get out of the way. It must have took me nearly 15 minutes from finishing to clearing the finish area - thanks guys... Next year? maybe... Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Good flat course but not great organisation In full: Great potential for PB. However, the start needs organising - couldn't hear the tannoy, no marshalls to help people find the time markers (only saw one time marker at the start) so it was difficult to get people in pace order which doesn't help the congestion. Only saw one distance marker, and there wasn't a water station. Other than that, good flat course. Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Good, flat, fast course when managed to get through the very congested start. In full: Really enjoyed the race though a couple of things could make it much better. The start was very chaotic. tannoy inaudible and not nearly enough toilets (several of them seemd to be out of use). Same at the end - very congested with everyone gathered round the town hall steps, couldn't the area where the warm up was done be utilised for water & t-shirts? Positives - people giving out the t-shirst were lovely & friendly and warm up was good fun. Date of review: November 26, 2006
