In short: Great event let down only by the famous Marsh winds! In full: I enjoyed the event. To runners whinging about water I would recommend if they are that dependent on getting fluids down their neck they carry their own. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Sorry Nice Work, I have to agree with SOME of the things already said. In full: The water stations!! 'Enough Said' The Goody Bag, Somewhat Poor for the entry fee. But as for some comments about the Marshalls, The only comment I have is I feel the marshal at the 12+ roundabout SHOULD HAVE POINTED THE WAY BUT DIDNT I had to follow other runners. But for the other marshalls, although not very vocal they did there job and I thank them for that. Perhaps in future years this event needs to have people who know what it is like to NOT have enough water and a better finish goody bag content would be great. So NICE WORK keep going because we ALL NEED people who are willing to organise events. And as for some of the people who have commented here need to try organising one themselves before they make harsh comments, I have assisted in running events and organised cycling events and it is NOT as easy as they might think... In short: The worst organised race I have ever run in In full: Where do you want me to start.
"There will be three drinks station at 3.5 miles, at the halfway point and at 10.5 miles; however if the weather is particularly warm we may add an additional water stop." How does that fit in with the reality of first station at 4+ miles and only other station just under 10 miles. THe stations were badly undermanned, runners do not want to have to stop, I wasted a full minute at the first stop. Even if you are let down at the last minute there is NO EXCUSE for missing out the middle water station, redeploy people, but just get somebody out there.
Marshalls were virtually non-existent, I saw none between 4 and 9 miles and I doubt if there were more than a dozen out on the course.
I could turn this into a total tirade but I won't, but I will finish with one final observation. As there is no running club involved in this race, or any obvious charity connection, who actually benefits from the proceeds of this race?
In short: Nice race at the coast with lots of wind! In full: I really enjoyed the race today; good scenery, organisation (except for water - but I carried my own bottle so not a problem for me) and good marshalls, especially the one at the turn. Very friendly race and I will be back next year to try and do a PB. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Very enjoyable race In full: First time I had done this race & thoroughly enjoyed it. Feel previous comments re marshalls are unjustified as nature of course didn't require many & those on the course did a good job. Would definitely do again. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: A pancake flat course let down by some basic errors In full: When they say the course is flat. I mean, it is really flat. Really, really flat. Headwind for most of the last 4 miles was a pain in the proverbial. For anyone chasing a PB it is well worth doing.
Some real basics were missing. I won't go on about the water stations as others already have said it all. I always carry my water bottle with me and I was very glad I did so today. 1st station at 4 miles ???
I know it is difficult to get marshalls to turn out to attend races but I don't think I heard any of them mutter one word of encouragement all the way round. They obviously didn't want to be there. The marshall just after the 12 mile mark was especially rude. Wasn't even wearing a vest, didn't even motion which direction to take until I was almost past him which almost led to me taking a wrong turn into the finishing part.
Not having water close to the finishing line was a real schoolboy error. Yes, it was only a short walk to get some but after having run 13 miles it is nice to have it a little closer.
Shame, as all these things are quite easy to put right but, until they are, I won't be doing this one again. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Quite disappointed! In full: I'd ignore comments about a PB potential. It is flat but it is ALWAYS very windy in the area so PB's are unlikely. The lack of water stations (one doubling up on an out and back route - and none at the finish) is really not good enough for a 'serious' race of this distance (although previous comment intimates race organisers were let down at 11th hour). With strong sun and high winds, I really struggled without fluid despite having my own bottle to start with. Lack of stewards saw people taking different routes around 'The Rype' at the end - I'm not sure if I ran too short, just right or too long - or what my time was. The closest race to my home but I won't bother again. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Good half marathon if only the wind could stop for once! In full: Nice, smaller race suitable for all standards. PB potential is very good but for the seemingly gale force winds on the return home for the last 4 miles. Support a little patchy but then again this is quite a remote part of the South East! What support was out there was appreciated.
The lack of a water station was, I understand, due to some promised support not materialising on the day. Not an issue for me as I tend to carry a drink for the first half of the race anyway.
Good to have the use of the Village Hall this year which meant much more space.
A really good touch was the fact that the kids race took place before the adults meaning we could see our kids run! Nice for the kids to have the support of the other runners too rather than be relegated to after the main event. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Windy In full: Great local race. Got myself a PB, which i didnt expect this morning with the windy conditions. Battled with the wind for the whole 2nd half of the race back to HQ
Agree with the comments about the missing water station and feel sorry for people having to wait for water. Have to remember this is only the 2nd year of the race and as numbers pick up the goody bag should improve and any minor problems can be addressed.
Keep up the good work Date of review: March 8, 2009
