In short: wet and wild. In full: Weather was challenging. Great route and lovely coastal scenery, which I may have taken more notice of on a less blustery day. Very well organised, big thank you to the Marshals and also to the onlookers who shouted encouragment. Jelly babies galore, toilets and water stations all well positioned. Just a normal day at the British seaside! Date of review: February 13, 2011
In short: Great organisation, awful AWFUL weather. :-( But very well organised! In full: Saturday was a wonderful day, Sunday (Race day) was dreadful! Wet, very Windy, even a little hail. So that was horrible!
That said, it was well organised and friendly. Marchalls everywhere it mattered and course really clearly marked.
It was a great day despite the bad weather, thanks to the organisers! Date of review: February 13, 2011
In short: fabulous race but tough with the wind and rain In full: enjoyed the off road sections and proudly showed off my mud splattered legs when i finished! the wind made it tough going but still enjoyed it - mostly traffic free which is always good. lovely and warm in the pyramids for before and after the race - the bar was open too! In short: Great time in the face of the wind In full: Bloody hard work because of the weather, but really well organised, and very friendly marshals. Currently plotting how to carry a windbreak on the next one... Date of review: February 13, 2011
In short: Typical Portsmouth weather made it a real challenge! In full: The wind and rain made this race a real challenge, but also added to the atmosphere as runners looked at each other with "what on earth are we doing??" expressions.
The multi-terrain element made it a lot of fun, and combined with the weather I'm surprised that anyone would get near a PB, but I didn't have any expectations of that.
I found it to be well organised, decent medal and reasonable goodie bag, and a very fair price. I'd love to try it again on a sunnier day when the scenery might appear to better advantage!
No real gripes - it was a tough run and something different from the half-marathons I've done previously, and although the field seemed to be mostly experienced runners, there was certainly a smattering of fun runners too and the overall atmosphere was one of good cameraderie.
