In short: Spectacular organisation, pleasant route with great support In full: Fantastically organised event. Every question you could possibly have is answered leading up to the race. Course mostly flat with a few inclines at the start then quite a steep one at mile 24. Support from marshals & locals along the way was brilliant. Would definitely recommend for seasoned pros or first timers. Date of review: October 7, 2014
In short: Worthy of your marathon bucket list In full: Andy and Chris have set the bar very high for others to follow with a first class course, excellent organisation and brilliant support from all of the marshals. Routinely voted the best marathon in the UK it's hard to argue with that title. If you want a big city road marathon there can't be a better choice. Also, a very nice touch for Chris and Andy to personally congratulate finishers of the marathon. Date of review: October 7, 2014
In short: Excellently organised enjoyable experience In full: I ran my first ever marathon this sunday at Chester and i was massively impressed by the event, from booking the race months ago i felt the website is very detailed and user friendly, i contacted one of the main organisers, Chris, via email on two occassions and he very quickly responded.
The race itself is superbly well organised, the race marshalls and volunteers all deserve medals they where great, drinks stations where not spread too far apart, great atmosphere from the locals in the villages coming out to cheer us runners on, you really feel the whole area comes together to support the event.
The start and the finish areas are good, the cheer from the built up crowd in the last mile helped drag me over the line.
One thing of note though is that i wouldnt class this as a flat course! Luckily i dont mind hills, there are plenty of nice downhill sections but in the crucial last 6 miles miles there are a few unwanted climbs, and by far the biggest climb is at approx 24.5 miles.....it feels like everest!!! A cruel thing to have so late on! But these events are meant to challenge you though!!!
Overall i was well and truly happy with my experiences of running Chester, i would recommend it to anyone. I saw someone else review it and said you get the feeling it could end up being a really big event, i second that statement! Date of review: October 7, 2014
In short: Great atomsphere and race!! In full: This was my first visit to Chester and I was originally due to run the marathon but due to recent injuries I dropped down to the new Metric Marathon. What a great idea as it gives runners a chance to do a distance further than a half. The atomsphere around the course was awesome, fantastic marshals encouraging all of us runners, well stocked water stations and the medal and t-shirt are great!! Would I do it again yes without a doubt and may be try the marathon. WELL DONE CHESTER!!!!!!! Date of review: October 7, 2014
