In short: Hot ,Hilly , Hard !!!!!!! In full: 4th time I have done this race so you think I would better prepared each year but this year my prep was all wrong and to add to my misery I forgot to apply sun cream so I got burnt quite badly. My sub 2 challenge died at six miles as I ran out of energy. But my grumbles aside the support was great as always, the hills were tough as always, A big thanks to the people with jelly babies and to the people at the top of Milton Road with the garden hose brigade which was most welcome to the nightmare I was enduring and the support at the finish was excellent !!! Had a bad run but hey guess what ??? Yep I will be back for another crack next year !!! Date of review: June 10, 2008
In short: Superb introduction to hills! In full: I love hills - and this has plenty of them, but don't let that put you off - there are more than enough downhils to make up for the up's! A wonderful event, great fun and challenging in all the right places. Date of review: June 9, 2008
In short: A brilliant race. In full: Everything about this race is excellent. The friendliness of everyone from participants to marshalls to the general public is outstanding. This is my second year and I look forward to next year. If you get a chance to run this race you won't regret it. Date of review: June 9, 2008
In short: Best support ever In full: Fantastic support especially the kids at the final water station. Yes it was hot, yes it was hilly, and yes it was the toughest race I have ever done, but with that support no way you would drop out. Date of review: June 9, 2008
In short: Hot, Hilly fun In full: This is the most difficult Half that I've done. The number and steepness of the hills make it very challenging. The organisation of the race was very good. Normally road racing gets pushed out to country lanes on the edge of town but this one starts bang in the middle of Stoke and went through urban areas the whole way. This was great because there was loads of support from local people and the police/marshalls closed roads all the way round. Spectators were giving out Jelly Babies and a nice lady gave me a drink of water on the really steep hill. Finish was excellent, big crowd and the announcer calling out names as people went through. Well done to the organisers!! Date of review: June 9, 2008
In short: Fantastic, frustrating, fun In full: What a fantastic race, support was great, more hoses than super-soakers this year. Thanks to the guy on Leonard street for the ice lolly!
I'm a bit disappointed to just miss out on the silver (1h 45), must get my head and legs around this marathon vs half marathon pace thing. I ran by Fred Flintston for a while, there were lots of yabadabadoo's, one old lady made me chuckle "Come on Fred, Wilma's waiting"
I'll be back, oh yes ... Date of review: June 9, 2008
In short: Very challenging run, but worth it In full: The 13.1 was my first official road race, and something that was unforgettable! Lots of hills, especially one at 11 miles which was amazingly hard! Good day out!! Date of review: June 9, 2008
