In short: a great race for a negative split! In full: having all the hills in the first half looks tough on paper, but makes great running for a negative split! Great race, well organised and good support all round. One suggestion - signposting that the drinks stations are coming up? As they were surrounded by the crowds I wasn't expecting them - nearly missed two. Or maybe I should buy some glasses to run in? Date of review: March 22, 2010
In short: The knees ooooo the knees! In full: Second time of doing this race, 2 years apart, and beat my last by 5mins so am v chuffed. Found the hills positively offensive as only remembered the Queensway one so kept thinking I was in the clear when yet another hill loomed in front which did make me want to throw myself on the floor in a tantrum, however managed to stay vertical and then I threw myself along the final 5 miles to make up time and my knees are feeling v injured today as a result. That said, super race, a real sense of achievement, the best crowd support you can get and thank you for the orange slice and banana! Query - lack of loos at start/finish and didn't see any enroute unlike in 2008? And the post finish line was way too crowded - should be lengthened and only runners allowed in that area. Had to fight my way, gasping (post finish 400 yrd sprint) to find the water. Either move water closer and eliminate the non runners from the area or give me a goody bag with water?!!! Super day and PERFECT running conditions. Date of review: March 22, 2010
In short: Tough first half makes this an interesting race In full: Very well organised popular London preparation. Tough first half with long 2-3 mile incline in first 5 miles but then some lovely downhills in second half. Good support despite grey clouds and drizzle. Well organised drinks stations plus offerings from supporters of oranges, bananas and jelly babies. Pleased with my time as 4 mins quicker than Brighton a few weeks ago although no monsoon. Big heavy ledal, shame no ribbon on it though!
In short: Excellent race and fantastic support from the people of Hastings In full: My third time doing this race and the hills in the first part are becoming more challenging with age. But the support from the crowd all the way round the course is inspirational, thank you to everyone who came out and cheered us on. Another nice day down on the coast, definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for an enjoyable half marathon experience. Will be back for more next year. Date of review: March 22, 2010
In short: Very testing, but I loved it! :-) In full: This was my first half marathon, so I was little anxious about the hilly start, but although it was hard work I really enjoyed it. The support throughout the whole course was magnificent and kept me going. I found the last 2 miles very challenging - I could see what loooked like a bouncy castle in front for ages! - I kind of wish it was, so I could just collapse on it at the end!!
Very well organised - would highly recommend. Date of review: March 22, 2010
