In short: Challenging but enjoyable In full: Looking back at the event seems much easier than running it! At the time I found it challenging, and very depressing that you have to run past the finish line and watch all the Tempest 10 runners celebrate that they've finished and you still have the whole route to do all over again!! However, the Marshalls were really friendly and encouraging -as were the other runners! There were more than enough Gels and water etc which was great! I would do the Tempest 10 in autumn for sure!! In short: Excellently run, a perfect warm-up for a spring marathon In full: Second time I've done this run and would happily do it again. It is excellently organised. Car parking is right next to the start line which helps, particularly when it's raining! At the end of the run the medals are excellent and there are loads of lucozades, other drinks and chocolate bars to grab at the end. Only point for improvement would be to have sports cap bottles on the way round - for people who dont like stopping, drinking out of plastic cups whilst running is a nightmare - as a result I took on board too many energy gels (great to have them available) and not enough water and felt pretty sick - admittedly my fault but sports bottles would be better! In short: Great 20-miler... thank you :) In full: Did this last year too and already one of my favourite 20 milers. Moving the start/finish made it even better, even though the last uphill bit is a real toughie at about 17/18 miles! Marshalls were all really cheerful and encouraging - they must have been soaked and cold...... Date of review: March 15, 2011
In short: Many improvements on last year, just not my time ; ) In full: This race is perfectly timed as a marathon training run, I ran it last year and came back for more as had heard about the improvements made. Moving the start made a huge difference as those last 3 miles on the airfield in 2010 were tough so much better to get out of the way sooner this year!
Water stations seemed slicker, with more volunteers (very cheery bunch) and plenty of sweets and gels... I wouldn't recommened the Vanilla flavour though, it made me gag!
Having the toilets spilt into two areas seemed to work better but a few more would still be beneficial as ever.
A friendly note to spectators though... wait for the start before you get in the toilet queue, us runners need it more than you do!
Overall a good race, was pleased to only miss my PB by 20 seconds, maybe next year eh! Friendly, well-placed and encouraging marshalls - thanks for standing in the rain for us crazy runners! Date of review: March 15, 2011
