In short: more hilly than undulating In full: Entry fee seems a lot for a 10K but well organised, good medal, t-shirt and great goodie bag make it worthwhile. The start was in waves but my wave was very large and the first 1-2K was rather frantic due to the amount of people. Weather was warm but not too bad, however it would be nice to have earlier starts. The hill in the middle is a long drawn out affair which may be tough for some but for every up there's a nice bit of down hill recovery. Overall, this is a good 10K route through the forest and worth a go. Date of review: May 29, 2013
In short: Scenic, well planned out route In full: This 10km route was a good combination of up and down hills (not steep hills, just very long). The only downfall for me was that I found it too hot but not a lot can be done about that! Marshalls were along the route to cheer you on and point you in the right direction. Organisation was spot and and timings were as per the pre-event instructions. Medal,T-shirt & goodie bag was worth the pricey entry fee. A good day out for all the family! In short: A well-organised trail 10k through very pleasant surroundings. In full: Nice to return to the race that got me hooked last year, even nicer to run it in sensible weather. I'd forgotten about the length of the hill in the middle and will no doubt forget again in time for next year.
Genuinely welcoming event, with plenty of encouraging marshals. Perfect for newcomers but also a route that's quick enough to have a bit of a blast, and plenty to do round about - there's a climbing wall to keep the kids occupied, and the Forestry Commission have loads of stuff nearby to make a day of it.
Certainly not the cheapest 10k in the calendar and, with a field of 800 or so, it feels more regimented than many - but the wave starts work well and there's very little congestion. See you next year... Date of review: May 28, 2013
In short: Great first trail 10k race, tech tshirts, generous goody bag & medal appreciated In full: I'm hooked on trail runs now, not sure I want to go back to road races ! Not everyday you race with Llamas, sheep, clamber over fallen trees, watch deer graze and run through an ancient forest maze. Date of review: May 26, 2013
In short: Good run, family-friendly day out, but very hot. In full: I would echo a lot of the comments already made i.e. lovely scenery, fun route, very well marshalled, and good range of facilities for family and runners.
It was very hot on the day, which I appreciate is hard to predict, but: 1) an earlier start would have been good as I started at close to midday which equalled heat and limited shade, 2) an extra water stop in the circumstances would have been very welcome, 3) stores could have included items such as SPF clothing (e.g. high UV buffs), sun block, etc. Having an enduring love for the outdoors and the experience of a melanoma, sun safety feels like an important consideration. In short: Great Scenery, Great Run In full: I did this last year & it was great, even better this year (even though i had a bad race). With the weather being as hot as it was it would have been good to have an additional water station. Loads of freebies!! Date of review: May 31, 2012
In short: Hot but loved it! In full: My first trail run, apart from being really very warm I absolutely LOVED it! Really well organised, all event staff, marshalls etc really helpful and friendly. Loads of freebies is always a winner and the t-shirt was great - i wore it on a club run a few days later and was most comfortable, nice medal and excellent goodie bag! SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!! :D Date of review: May 31, 2012
In short: Most enjoyable, had done it last year and forgotten about the big hill! In full: I've done this twice now, I came back as I enjoyed the whole event last year, even though I remember struggling, and once again I struggled- a combination of heat and one especially long uphill drag. I would, after all that, still do it again next year, its really well organised and the people running it were really friendly and supportive. Date of review: May 29, 2012
In short: and God was in his heaven.... In full: A beautiful run, wonderfully organised and hosted. One more water stop may have been useful, but it was quite exceptionally hot. The start/finish village with its food, drinks and freebies was a great atmosphere. I enjoyed it all so much I even did the dancy warm-up mularkey at the start - which is not really my scene (expert dad-dancer) The hot weather made the run very tough, but it also made the before and after very relaxed and on balance I'll take that any day.
