In short: Worth a shot In full: Did this race for the first time today. Great organisation & lots of marshalls. It's the only race I've done in such a residential area so I'm not sure how everyone in the area knows to come slowly out of all the side roads! Easiest race I've ever been to in terms of getting to a toilet beforehand! Lots of water on the way round which I didn't take advantage of and was disappointed there was no water at the end.
There are a good few hills & I found them long & steady. Having recently done Watford the hills were steeper there but you got nice down hills as a reward where as the downs were also more gradual here.
So all in all it wasn't easy but I wasn't a million miles off a pb & would happily come again next year. Date of review: February 28, 2016
In short: Very well organised and friendly race... with hills and traffic! In full: A very friendly race, well organised and with the track start and finish has lots going for it... and for the second year running the weather was perfect. But, large sections of the race are on narrow pavements next to busy roads which is not a good combination. The marshalls did a great job but the route could be improved greatly and made safer for all. Date of review: March 10, 2015
In short: Tougher than I thought - a great workout In full: I found it tough with the short hills meaning you didn't have far to run before you came across another one. However the real reason I struggled was my lack of match practise as it were. I still ran one of my best times and there is potential for a pb here if you train well. Thought the marshalling was fantastic in difficult circumstances with lots of cars on the roads. It's a well established race and had the feel of one. One gripe I had was lots of runners were allowed to get away with wearing headphones. I like wearing headphones but obeyed the rules saying they weren't allowed. Rules like this only work if everyone obeys by them. Date of review: March 9, 2015
In short: Half Marathon in my doorstep In full: So I had to do it eventually. Yes, very close to where I live but I never noticed all those hills before! Very well organised, supportive atmosphere. Marshalls were excellent, especially as this was potentially a difficult race to marshall. As others have said, not great potential for PBs but I did ok and it's left me with a warm glow now the sunshine's gone away again (and otherwise it's miserable Monday). Date of review: March 9, 2015
In short: Great Hill Training In full: I came prepared for this race after reading the reviews from previous years. The race had plenty of inclines to get your quads working but I found that there were also an even number of declines, which allowed plenty of rest on the legs. I somehow managed a PB despite the challenges, so I would say there is definite PB potential for those that like a challenge. The race was organised well considering the 'residential' route which took us through some avenues and main roads. There was the issue of managing traffic that the stewards did exceptionally well. There were around four water stations throughout with water bottles instead of plastic cups, which I liked. All in all, I would definitely recommend to runners of all abilities - especially those training for longer distances. Date of review: March 9, 2015
In short: Excellent Hilly challenge In full: Go for it up the hills, and ease back on the declines. Really good friendly race, not one for a PB, but an excellent challenge Date of review: March 9, 2015
In short: My local, really enjoyed it In full: My second time, and despite the hills I managed a fairly decent time. It's very friendly and well organised. Hopefully I'll be back next year. Date of review: March 8, 2015
