In short: A good turn out on a sunny morning In full: This is the third time I have run this race and each year it becomes more popular. The organisation before the race was very good and I received my number and instructions early. Car parking this year was away from Jubilee Park and this led to a fair walk into the park and then out again for the start. The route itself is not spectator friendly until you get back into Woodhall Spa but from time to time within villages people have come out to applaud. At the end there is an inspirational number of spectators leading to sprint finishes. The views as you run round the route are good and there is room for overtaking if you want to after the first 500 metres. A bottle of water, medal and a BBQ with friends at the end. In short: Great first time at Woodhall Spa In full: Enjoyed my first visit to Woodhall Spa 10k. Camped in the town and enjoyed the are with the family and friends. Nice place to spend a weekend. The race was well marshalled with no major issues other than some traffic to contend with (some fast travelling cars in the opposite direction - idiots!).
Nice scenery and nice pothole free roads. 2 water stations at about 3km and 7klm which were needed as it was roasting by the end - far from ideal conditions - although the course is very flat and I smashed my PB by almost a minute.
Overall, a nice regional race which I would do again.
Improvements: try to control the traffic a little more, perhaps more suport (this can be forgiven - its a rural race), some kind of goodie bag with T-shirt would be nice or perhaps a protein bar to finish. Date of review: June 2, 2013
In short: Well organised, good route, great race In full: Sorry for being used to country lanes and beautiful countryside, as I'm almost not impressed with the scenery. Good start, well-marshalled course, good atmosphere, 2 good water stations (very useful as it was fairly warm!) and a good finish. No t-shirt this year, but that's fine. Nice medal and a nice PB! In short: Perfect weather, well organised apart from racing cyclists diving through the runners, cars in the way at the end and woolly arrangements after the finish (try to find a bucket of timing chips on the floor in a crowd!). Sadly no t shirts either. Date of review: June 2, 2013
In short: Probably better than usual. In full: Lovely weather helped after a week of rain etc. Well organised, well marshalled. This is a great race for all on a course that allows everyone to do well. Organised locally without all the hype of bigger races, it is as it should be, turn up and enjoy a good friendly race.
The issue of tee shirts is out of proportion, sadly the entry form did say tee shirts but it seems a medal was given instead. Surely any memento is suitable - most races get criticised for 'boring tee shirts' so just enjoy your medal!
In full: Very congested and very difficult to run at own pace at the back. Took almost 3 mins to get to start line after gun. Solid wall of people so impossible to run at own pace. Very frustrated. Start needs to be staggered. Seemed ok up to about 400 people, after that, felt like a waste of time. No t shirts at end and was told that they just gave those left over from last year out to first back. Shouldn't have advertised t shirts if that the case. Date of review: June 12, 2012
In full: very disappionting not to get a tee shirt at the end when all front runners got one and nobody seemed to care about back runners who all work just as hard in thier running to complete each course Maggie Date of review: June 12, 2012
