In short: Highly recommended.
In full: Only my 2nd marathon (first was over 10 yrs ago!), but I now feel encouraged to do more, a testament to this event. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Thanks to the organisers & volunteers for a well run event, with start & finish both having good transport links. Thanks also to the public for their support - especially strong in central Liverpool.

There are some inclines, but it wouldn't take much hill training to cope reasonably with these. New Brighton Prom - a popular section of the run - was great this year, but can be very windy. I thought that there might have been congestion in the tunnel, but when I reached it (approx 1hr 45mins) the crowds had thinned out, and overtaking wasn't a problem.

Suggestion to the organisers - might selling the event be a little easier if the history of the route were mentioned on the RunLiverpool website, e.g. Birkenhead Park, where the race started, inspired New York's Central Park, the Queensway Tunnel (AKA Birkenhead tunnel) was the longest underwater tunnel in the world when it built (and was used in a Harry Potter film!), etc. Just a suggestion.

In short: Great course - sun, sea, hills, park and tunnel - and the people of Wirral/Liverpool were fantastic
In full: Having grown up on the Wirral, leaving 26 years ago, I eagerly anticipated this run. And what a run; the Wirral section was super-fast, and training on the hills of Bath meant the Liverpool section was nothing to fear.

The support all the way round was superb.

PB potential? Oh yes! I have been running marathons for 5 years and I knocked over 12 minutes off my previous PB, and now will be able to run London in a 'good for age' place - something I only dreamed of before Sunday!

So thank you to the people of Wirral and Liverpool - running past many of my old haunts was very special...and being cheered for doing it, even better ;0)

In short: Incredible day, great race and great people!
In full: I loved this race, my first marathon.
The atmosphere was electric the whole way round the course, I definitely agree with the goosebumps moment coming out of the tunnel as well, made my hairs stand on end.
An incredible race and the great course allowed me to complete in a good time for my first go!

I wrote a little post about it on my blog if anyone's interested please feel free to comment and add what you thought too!

In short: Very well organised race. Excellent scenery for a city marathon. Great t.shirt and medal.
In full: The start was very well organised and laid out. Never seen so many portaloos. Loved the run along the mersey with views across to the city and also the drums on coming out of the tunnel. Other runners and crowds very supportive to keep you going over last few miles. Excellent medal and tech shirt so good value. Baggage drop-off and pick-up worked like clockwork. Big congratulations to organisers.

In short: Well organised, interesting and challenging course, fantastic support
In full: This was my first Marathon so can't compare it to anything, but now the pains have subsided I want to do it again!

The communication (in the forums, in the race guide, via the office) was first class and I can't fault the organisation of direction and tips for getting to and from the event were perfect. The course was really good, I agree with others who said the Wirral side was easier and the Liverpool side much tougher and the unique couple of miles in between (the tunnel) was very special. The entertainment and support all around the course was a real plus.

Lastly, the finishers T-shirt and medal were really high quality, as if it didn't feel good value already.

In short: Well organised race but 10km race needs to start at least 15 minutes later due to the congestion it caused.
In full: As a 'local' the race was better than I anticipated - particularly knowing some parts of the course very well. Having 10km runners in amongst the marathon field made it a little bit congested for at least first 3-4km.

Sea front was excellent as was exit from the tunnel.

Major positive was the finish which was as good as any that I have experienced.

All in all - very enjoyable but if the race organisers are sincere about growing to 20,000 runners - the 10km needs to start at leat 30 minutes later.

In short: A good, well organised marathon with some really special moments - the view of the Liverpool Waterfront from the Wirral and exiting the tunnel must rank up there with any race.
In full: A really good race. It's definitely one to say you've done and just thinking about coming out of the tunnel is making the hairs stand up on my neck. The second half is tough though so pace management and appropriate training is key.
