In short: This was my first half marathon, and hopefully one of many. The organisation was great, as was the atmosphere. It was a lot of fun running alongside so many others in a race of this size Date of review: October 22, 2012
In short: Thanks Great Run for organising - much needed change In full: The 2010 race was a shabmles with congestion at the start and finish due to very poor organisation. No such problems now the Great Run team have come down from Newcastle to organise. Started in 4 waves (11-13 mins apart) not terrible keen on that but it's a must on this course. Brilliant crowds My highliget of the year was seeing the great Haile Gabrselassie strom past on the opposite side of the road on the long out and back section. Date of review: December 11, 2011
In short: Big improvement from last year! In full: Challenging course. More organized and definitely has the potential to be a major running event. I hope that it will become even bigger and better! Date of review: November 23, 2011
In short: fantastic In full: first HM and loved it crowds were fantastic the finish in broad street was unbelievable the hill wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be but spent the next day in agony, have signed up for next year..cant wait Date of review: November 8, 2011
In short: `happy to see my city in the running map In full: *good crowd support *excellent organization *not so picturesque scenery *last few miles are steep.last few miles could be re routed to avoid those hills.runners are already tired by the time they reach those hills.have mercy please *medal is average.not good enough for my efforts.i collect medals.the EDF medals of previous HMs are far better than the BUPA ones. *the goody bag hasnt have much in it this is my 4th Birmingham HM.this might be the last as well unless those things ive pointed out are addressed.BUPA is a big name and a big company.please live up to your name.
In short: Brum Run Gets Better. Good organanisation and enjoyable. Route could include more of leafy Bournville areas. Shame the "hill" comes so late on but at least you know the end is close ! In full: My third Birmingham (home town) run. 2009 was OK. 2010 was spoilt by poor start & finish planning. 2011 - much better. Starting in waves was a good idea to prevent over crowding on the early narrow streets. Route is OK but more could be made of leafy Bournville area instead of the grey city centre side streets near the start and after the park. Supporters gave lots encouragement and were keen though there were many gaps with no one.(might improve in years to come as it becomes more popular). More top ranked runners would elevate the event as would a few celebs. Minus point was expectation that runners could all remove their own timing chips. It needed many more helpers equipped with "cutters". A long way to go to match the appeal of the Great North Run but a good event to build on. Date of review: October 31, 2011
