In short: Muddy!
In full: My first Gutbuster and a fantastic race! About two thirds was off road and I haven't seen so much mud! It was incredibly tough going but the mince pies and mulled wine at the end dragged me over the line.

Would thoroughly recommend and will be there next year to burn off those Christmas pounds!

In short: A race full of character.
In full: After the 6am alarm went off and I checked the weather I very nearly went back to bed. I am very glad I didn't. From parking next to combine harvesters to the jolly little intro speech to the friendly marshals to the beautiful but testing course and the cracking medal and mince pies to finish this is a brilliantly unique race. I had an absolutely fantastic time despite my legs feeling like lead on the last two miles. I think I'll have to apply very early to get in next year. Well done to all involved.

In short: A beautiful 10 mile multi terrain race
In full: I had an excellent time and loved it. It starts off on the road on back lanes. Then it goes onto some tracks and off road. The off road bits are fun and very scenic. Make sure you leave energy for the last few miles as it gets tougher through some files.

In short: Slippery, squelchy mud-fest! Love, love love it!
In full: After last year's fantastic first race, this became a firm favourite on my running calendar. This year it's cemented its position despite being, muddier, dirtier, squelchier and tougher. I blimmin' loved it.

The route changed a little on last year's - no clay cabbage patch [thank you God]. If anything it was better, more off-road and that additional final challenge - a boggy home straight with the finish line taunting you from the top of the field.

The personalised medal this year was a beaut and well worth the effort - not to mention the finish-line mince pies and mulled wine.

The marshals were upbeat and great fun, despite being pretty cold I imagine, and the organisation was top notch [thanks for holding off the briefing while us late comers nipped to the loo].

Thanks so much for a great event - still a calendar highlight!

In full: A good XC & rural road run, with the majority as a very heavy going XC! You get to run round the walls of an ancient Roman city, through a ford and across some very muddy fields. The rain this year made avoiding mud and puddles unavoidable and a large amount of the course was slick ankle-deep mud :) Not a pb course by any means but a good scenic run in the country to blow away Christmas calories - and then put some back on with the lovely touch of mince pies and mulled wine for the finishers. The last mile was deceptively hard, the sight of the finish line taunting you as leaden feet struggle across the cloying mud of the final 2 fields. A good atmosphere there and a well organised event, but the conditions underfoot may well deter the average pavement-pounder looking for a first time XC run of a decent length.

In short: Lace up your shoes really tight!!
In full: Beautiful countryside, good mixture of road/off road running and hilly/flat terrain. Don't bother trying to avoid the mud and bogs - might as well wade right in. Lots of squeals and yelps as we tried to stay upright in the mud. People were looking out for each other as well. Really liked the small numbers, which made parking, registering and setting off really easy. Mulled wine was very welcome! Thanks to the organisers and marshals and their little helpers. Finally, it did the trick - stopped me overindulging at Christmas!

In short: Excellent run to finish the year, must have for the yearly running even calendar
In full: Totally enjoyed the run. Incredibly muddy, but that just added to the real fun, the only race I have laughed at during the race. Really friendly and incredibly well organised.

Loved the medal!

In short: Fantastic end to the year
In full: It's great to end your running year on a high note, and this race was definitely special. Even the pouring cold rain stopped just before the start, so we ran in beautiful winter sunshine. The scenery was great, the on-road sections were traffic-free, and the mud was magnificent! If you enjoy squelching through ploughed fields, this is as good as it gets.
The organization was also brilliant - well signposted, plenty marshals, a personalised medal and mulled wine and mince pie to finish. Well done to the My Sporting Times team.

In short: Brilliant - road, wet, mud, hill, mud, mud, mud!
In full: This fantastic run is a great way to end the year. The recent rain made the route very wet and muddy but slipping round the roman walls of silchester is one of the highlights of my running year. There are no boring bits on what is a lovely undulating route of grass, small roads, paths and ploughed fields.

This is a very friendly race with great marshals, good organisation and a lovely medal. It's also nice to get a slip with your time and position straight after finishing. Deserves to be real highlight on the regional calendar - this was my 20th race of 2012, and probably my favourite.
