In short: Favourite marathon so far... In full: This was my 6th marathon, and by far my favourite. The event ran like clockwork with a great atmosphere. Conditions were also perfect (got a PB). Have signed up for 2013. As has been previously stated - who needs London. Date of review: April 21, 2012
In short: Wasn't expecting hills, but fantastic race & perfectly organised In full: Plenty of water, fuel and crowd support. Not sure about the water pouches though, made me cough a few times. Great atmosphere, who needs London! Date of review: April 21, 2012
In short: First timer still on a high and signed up for 2013! In full: I loved the race. It's probably the best organised one overall I've ever done. My only gripe would be: the app was great but iphone only, please do it for Android if possible.
Amazing atmosphere. Yes, the power station bit is dull, and comprises running around a whole industrial park at just the wrong time - 20-23 miles is grim.
There are many out and back sections which are more fun when you're on the way back than on the way out!
As a beginner I had all kinds of fears about having a disastrous injury along the way, which didn't happen, but there were many helpful marshals and loads of water stations so you were never too far from help. Date of review: April 21, 2012
In short: Loved it! In full: My first marathon but I've already signed up for next year. Weather was perfect for running and the hills weren't a problem. I thought it was well organised but why aren't there ever enough toilets along the course? Funniest bit - seeing Robin help a large badger have a pee. Most exhilarating part - mile 13, coming back into the town - the crowds were amazing, really trying to shout out every name they could see. I preferred the pouches to cups but was horrified by the amount of wasted Powerade. My friends found it difficult to find the way down to the meeting area which meant I had to climb the steps! All in all though a fantastic experience. Date of review: April 20, 2012
In short: Fast, flat, well-organised. In full: This was a well-organised race with a great atmosphere, and a fast course. The power station at mile 21 is pretty depressing, but hard to see where else they could send the course at that stage.
My only issue was with the start pens, which seemed pretty arbitrary. Despite putting 3:20 on my entry form, I ended up in the blue pen, behind a mass of slower runners. I passed hundreds of red pen runners in the first few miles. It probably didn't make much difference to my finish time - but I did only miss out on a new PB by 25 seconds, so who knows.
But overall it was a great day out - and I may well be back next year. Date of review: April 19, 2012
In short: Well I'm doing it again in 2013...... In full: This was my first marathon so didn't really know what to expect and how my training fared.
Did some digging around reviews from last year before the race to find out how many hills there were. The answer is, there are a few. They're not horrible hills but they can take it out of you if you're not ready for them or if, like me, you train in an area where you're not blessed with many hills.
The atmosphere was amazing. Everyone seemed to include their children in the event and you're always throwing a 'high 5' there way.
The course is good. Could be better, but they can only work with what they have and whats available.
I did think it was missing a Powerade station between miles 12 and 20, unless I missed it.
I think it will get better and bigger each year.
I've signed up again for 2013. Date of review: April 19, 2012
In short: Great Event. Shame my Chip did not register at the Start In full: PLEASE READ THIS, then Race Report after. IF YOU FOUND A MARATHON ISSUE BAG ON THE TRAIN FROM BRIGHTON TO SOUTHAMPTON WITH NUMBER 5657 ON PLEASE PLEASE CONTACT ME: MICK JAMES 07842573185. IT HAS A LOT OF PERSONAL BITS IN INCLUDING ALL THE FINISHERS ISSUE BITS EXCEPT MEDAL, INCLUDING READING GLASSSES AND WE ALL KNOW THE COST OF THEM. I have been back to Brighton station lost property and no joy.
To the Race: What a day, my second and best, a bit short of my London PB but have had my health issues like a lot of other people.
I have only 1 problem: The Timing Chip, it did not trigger at the Start thus all I get is Gun Time results, even though I started with friends who's chip did work. 143 other chips on the Final results did not work properly either, so not just mine..
Would I do it again? you bet I would I want a PB yet on this event. So See You ALL Again in 2013... Please no number chips unless 100% Date of review: April 19, 2012
In short: Fantastic marathon. I'll be back In full: Absolutely loved it and had a great time. Only my second marathon and I've booked to run it again next year. The course is a little undulating in the first half, but what goes up, must come down. Superb organisation, friendly volunteers and great support from the crowd. Yes, it has it's tough points, particularly up by the power station, but then so does every marathon. As others have said, it's not an alternative to London, it's a great marathon in it's own right Date of review: April 19, 2012
