In short: 2nd time I've run, even better this year! In full: I love this race! I ran it last year too - both times post-big city marathon (last year London, this year Manchester) & both times, despite tired legs from only just having run one, I have enjoyed this one more!! The course is fab - quite tough from mile 20 onwards, but varied & pretty (certainly compared to the dreariness of Manchester anyway - the world's most boring course!) & great support (helps that I am local though so had friends as marshals!) The stadium start & finish is brill, so well organised, loads of room, loads of loos, couldn't fault it. The medal is great but a tshirt too would be good for the price as there wasn't really anything else in the goody bag (Manchester trumped that as got a tshirt & more snacks too!) but on the whole I think it's brilliant. Well worth doing, and a great Spring marathon. Hurray for MK! I'm proud to call it my local marathon! Date of review: May 8, 2015
In short: This race just gets better every year! In full: This is one of my all time top marathon events. The organisation is first class! The stadium venue is spacious and good for supporters. No queuing for toilets, the baggage area is massive and very well organised. Goody bag is very good.
Water tops are well stocked, the marshals are very friends and the route is varied and even though has some inclines does have PB potential.
A great day out and well worth entering. Date of review: May 8, 2015
In short: everything ran like clockwork. In full: Arrived early to find parking. No problems there. Number collection, baggage, loos, marshals and support brilliant. Course a little dull at the start and twisting and undulating near the end. I did however get a PB and was 1st lady and broke the female course record. Sadly all I got was a very cheap looking trophy. very disappointing. I've run 10 ks and been rewarded with more. Date of review: May 7, 2015
In short: 3rd MK marathon , 2012 a monsoon, 2013 boiling, 2015 lovely running conditions , if a little warm. PB 3.52.08 In full: A lovely finish in Stadium, lots of underpasses. Wish they could put up directions for VIP parking, nightmare if you don't know MK.lots of water/ drink stations , with toilets as well. 1st MK marathon 4.16, 2nd MK 4.04 , 3rd PB 3.52.08 Date of review: May 6, 2015
In short: A Run Of Two Parts In full: The organisation on the day was fairly seemless. I had no problem colecting my race pack and had plenty of time to change and get to the start. The starting procedure (releasing each pen with a two minute gap)was well intentioned but really needed some separation of the differing pens in the starting enclosure in order to work properly. Not the end of the world though. Personally I preferred the first few miles which were run on the roads through Central MK. There was more space and it was easier to stick to a pace and keep a good rhythm. Once the route entered the redways, it was not easy to run with any consistency. The ups/downs/bends of the underpasses were quite frustrating and tiring; there were no real stretches during which you could run at a constant pace. Ok, the weather was a bit warm as well which probably contributed towards fatigue but a decent straight, flat open run in to the stadium would have been great! The stadium finsish was fantastic as were the bag collection and other post run "formailities". I could not whole-heartedly recommend this a first marathon but will probably give it another go if only to lay the ghosts of those underpasses! Date of review: May 6, 2015
In short: My hometown 3rd year doing MK, possibily the last In full: I live in MK & this was my third year running MK Marathon. Good points venue is excellent, good parking, loos no queuing, baggage drop like clockwork, marshals fantastic, water stations excellent, support from the good people of MK outstanding, good medal with effort each year to bring on a new design, stadium finish well organised. Bad bits - organisation at the start with the pens, not clearly defined and not helped by pacer positions, the first 10 miles of the course most especially centre MK are dull boring and a leg killer - despite the best efforts of spectators it just seems endless, some changes to the route from last year which took us off the road at about mile 8/9 onto redways before going back onto the road were congested and tight for both half & marathon numbers, likewise the turns over central road islands - once the marathon splits from the half it generally gets a little better and a little more scenic - its a tough course and on a hot day the constant up & downs take their toll, by the time you get to the more scenic canal I think you are worn down & just want to get it done. For me living in MK I know we have some fantastic scenery with lakes, canal & parks most cities would only dream of, but I also understand that its becoming a bigger event as a road half & marathon - therefore it will be on boring roads to accommodate numbers, its just not my cup of tea anymore. But if you want a challenging road race with great marshals & organisation at a reasonable price then welcome to MK Marathon Date of review: May 5, 2015
