In short: Excellent event In full: I ran this in its first year in 2012 and was critical of its poor organisation, which at the time I acknowledged was challenged by some absolutely horrendous conditions. However, I read the positive reviews for 2013 and thought I would give it another go. I have to give credit where it is due, I found 2014 to be a really well organised and enjoyable event, with marshalled car parking at the stadium, undercover bag collection, opening much more of the stadium to spectators and participants, changing the route so that it takes in more of the centre of MK and also significantly reducing the number of underpasses, even small touches like now presenting finishers with medals over their heads rather than leaving in goodie bags. All in all it was an excellent event, even if I did finish a minute slower than last time! Well done to the organisers for listening to previous issues raised and implementing so many improvements: Milton Keynes has a marathon to be proud of. Finally, a massive thank you to all the volunteers for their support, us runners simply couldn't run these events without you. Date of review: May 12, 2014
In short: very well organised and mainly flat In full: I have done this race for the last 3 years and it seems to get better each year. The support was wonderful and the marshalls were excellent. Keep a little back for the last few miles when the little slopes and ramps that take you under the main roads start to feel steeper! Thanks to all involved Date of review: May 11, 2014
In full: This is my third year running this particular race, and each year, the race crew, marshalls, and atmosphere were really fantastic. One of my favourite all time marathons, and a great one to do. This year was quite a challenge, as approximately five months ago I had extensive surgery on my shoulder involving complete repair of both supraspinatous tendon and biceps tendon with repair of partial dislocation. My goal this year was to finish the course, and even though I was somewhat later, I still managed to reach home in 7.43.10. Will be back for more next year, faster and stronger. In short: Extremely well organised, up and down the red routes is not to all tastes but if you come prepared with that knowledge it's fine. A good route around MK. Marshalls were great and support excellent, a a nice place to finish! Date of review: May 9, 2014
In short: Amazing support and a great route In full: Loved the day, support was brilliant - kept me going. Although not classed as hilly there were enough bumps! Great atmosphere, big chunky medal, but no t shirt! The stadium finish was special, felt like a winner. Thankyou! Date of review: May 9, 2014
In short: Nice, well organised biggish event. Playful course In full: Broadly a very well organised race based at the MK Dons stadium in MK. I arrived 60+ minutes before off and teh car parks were empty and no problems but understand others did have issues. Good facilities as stadium toilets etc available. Excellent baggage check.
My one criticism of the organisation was the lack of time markers at the start.Whilst not everyone will "obey" them they do give a useful indication for people and te lack of them made the first few miles tighter than needed to have been.
Early miles into central MK on flat wide roads. One or two too many loop backs for my taste but gave opportunity to see lots of people and teh support was very good.
Later part of race explored the wider MK and whilst perfectly pleasant it was definitely hard to keep track of where you were. The race is decsribed as undullating and think thats what it is. Certainly harder than it looks on the profile but looking at overal elevation its certainly not hilly!
Good water and gel stations about the course. Nice medal at end. A good race and well worth doing. Date of review: May 9, 2014
