In short: Muddy and challenging but a great first taste of a trail half marathon In full: Despite having read previous reviews I was surprised at how muddy the course was and by the number of climbs in the second half which i found quite tough. However, the organisation was excellent, there was a good supply of refreshments at the 4 drinks stations,a friendly atmosphere amongst the runners and very good support from the marshalls and other volunteers. I will consider entering again next year but will try out some trail running shoes first as I struggled to stay upright in my ordinary running shoes. Date of review: May 13, 2014
In short: Even with really rubbish weather oddly enjoyable In full: The weather was really rubbish but this race was still enjoyable. Put on by runners who know what other runners like/ want. Challenging route, decent medal and tech t-shirt, well stocked feed stations and friendly marshalls. Will do again. Date of review: May 13, 2014
In short: A great race through trying terrain. Beautiful. In full: A very well organised (the race director was faultless in his efforts to swap a number over prior to the day), well marked route and great marshals. Would recommend it. Date of review: May 13, 2014
In short: Excellent event in a lovely part of the country In full: I know this was a good event because despite not performing very well I would definitely go back and do it again. Would like to try this excellently organised event in different weather conditions - not that the mud stopped others breaking all the course records! Date of review: May 13, 2014
In short: Glorious Mud! In full: Having only cycled round the route in the summer, the mud took me by surprise! Still, route was fun, and with a few good hills to spice it up! Marshalls were excellent, in particular the really jovial guy in the last half mile! Well organised, great scenery, good fueling stations and even the drizzle stopped eventually! All in all a fun way to spend a Saturday morning! Date of review: May 12, 2014
In short: Great fun, wonderful course, well organised. In full: I did the half marathon and I have to say that I enjoyed every minute of it. The muddy nature of the trail demanded good concentration in order to pick the fastest way through and there were a few decent hills to spice things up. It was a well organised event and I would definitely do it again. Date of review: May 12, 2014
In short: Mud glorious mud! In full: First Bewl water marathon but third marathon in 5 weeks! Went in completely open minded and didn't care about time! Had been told it was tough by a few people but apart from the concentrating on not slipping over and the hill at mile 12/24 thought it was very pleasent!
I think I ran from mile 19 - 22 without seeing anyone and did start thinking some git had changed the signs around! Nice downhill finish and even got offered a half eaten cheese and pickle sandwich by one of the Marshall!
Will defiantly be back next year! Date of review: May 11, 2014
In short: I did the half-marathon. It was wet and windy, and muddy, but not deep mud so wasn't a serious problem. Organisation was excellent as were the facilities at the start. In full: Very good trail event with well-positioned and well-stocked aid stations. Because of the wind, anyone not on the front row couldn't hear the pre-race briefing, but it didn't seem to matter. Civilised start time (10am) for the half-marathon. Good parking and facilities at Bewl Water. Overall excellent race. Date of review: May 11, 2014
In short: Very hard work, but incredibly satisfying, great people! In full: My first marathon in 15 years, probably not the best starting point, but I do like a challenge.. the event was run really well and the route was clearly marked with fully stocked drinks stations. As a newbie I was made welcome so don't think this run is just for club runners! if you like running and don't mind rough muddy terrain this one is an absolute beauty! Thanks to all that organised it... Date of review: May 11, 2014
In short: Definately a challenge. In full: I did the half marathon. The course was 3/4 muddy tracks along side the lake, constant concentration needed to pick the best route though the mud. The other 1/4 was on roads, with some reasonable climbs. There wasn't much chance to enjoy the views as you had to keep your eyes on the paths, but on a dry day they would be great.
Not everyone will enjoy this sort of race, but I did. Date of review: May 11, 2014
