In short: There's no denying it is tough but it is a superb race in a beautiful valley. In full: The race is really well organised, excellent friendly stewards with lots of locals out on the course supporting the runners too. The water stations are great and the volunteers who man them all day long for the many races do a great job. They really are the heroes of the event! It was far too hot for me but the roar of the crowd in Tywyn got my battered and bruised feet over the line. Thanks !!

In short: Un-helpful Literature In full: Firstly, no postcode of the start/race HQ with literature. Stopped locally drove in and made my way to a car park where they were charging £4 to park on a mudddy field...I parked on a road around the corner for free. On my race literature I was under the illusion that the race started at 11:15am a logical time to start as it wouldn't be to warm, however the race started at 14:00 to late and warm. As I mentioned this the marshalls just found this hilarious. I found this race to be un-friendly. I did not run it as I felt annoyed by the un-helpful marshalls and had to collect my dog from my parents before 3pm. I will not apply for this race again. Date of review: August 21, 2012

In short: Challenging but fun In full: They call these races "challenges", and they certainly are - don't expect to get close to your on-road pace. To say it's a multi-terrain course is an understatement - there's road, sheep tracks, open pasture, stone steps, fords and the infamous bog to negotiate. However, the course marking and marshalling were great, so there were no problems following the route, which was certainly one of the most scenic I've done. Having the shorter races in the morning and the main race in the afternoon, with a town centre finish, meant plenty of support on the run in. Added to that was one of the best goody bags I've received and a party in the evening. Although I rarely do off-road races, I'd certainly come back here again and see if I can beat the train next time. Well done, Tywyn Rotary Club! Date of review: August 21, 2012

In short: Different, Challenging and Great Fun In full: I was expecting wet conditions and rain, as was the forecast and sure enough, arrived in Tywyn on a damp morning and parked up in the field. Clearly, all the 10K runners had suffered/enjoyed/endured the mud and rain with pleasure and I was readying myself for much of the same. By the time the Rotary Challenge started, the sun was beating down making the running much more difficult. That combined with the difficult terrain had me questioning at about 4 miles if I would even finish this. By the turn round point, it was clear that beating the train was out of the question. I then started to recover and by 9 miles, I was really enjoying myself but by that point I had lost a lot of time stuck behind other runners on the single track. In turn, I completed the course with a huge smile 13 minutes after the train and the atmosphere was superb. The marshalls and spectators were excellent, as was the goody bag. All in all, a super race but not something to be taken lightly. I would say that if road work is your bread and butter, train to be comfortable for 16 miles if you want to complete this course strongly. Thanks Tywyn for a great time. Now I have experienced the course and terrain, hopefully, next year that train is toast. Date of review: August 21, 2012

In short: Fantastic scenery, fab crowd support and marshalling In full: First time doing this race, fantastic crowd support and marshalling, plenty of water stops for what turned out to be a hot day! Compared to other trail races the hills weren't as bad as I was expecting, especially being so close to Snowdon, running round the side of hills means a lot of off camber sections though! Return leg was harder but much more fun than the outward leg, loved seeing the train, and hearing the cheers from the passengers. Only downsides were the parking (an extra £4 we weren't told about before hand) and the pasta party was overpriced for what you got, and seemed to be largely for the Rotary club. In short: Wonderful views and super marshalling make for a great (if hard) run. In full: The muggy heat made this tough on the outward leg until the breeze from the coast hit your face at the turn around point. Super boggy in places but that just added to the fun. Goody bag at finish should be shown as an example to organisers of much larger races and was full of useful stuff. Only critcism is regarding parking, hard to reach car park indicated on supplied map because of race road closures, and then they charge £4 to park with no mention of fee in literature. Otherwise simply perfect. Date of review: August 20, 2012
