In short: What can I say that I haven't already said about this. There really is nothing that I can fault. Beautiful course, charming atmosphere and it runs like clockwork. Doug will be looking down with pride Date of review: September 10, 2012
In short: My third time at this half marathon and have loved it every time! In full: This a great run- a short climb up to the dam, flat all the way around the very scenic lake and downhill to the finish. Perfect. Excellent organisation, everyone very friendly, a great medal and t shirt, hot shower and a picnic on the grass. What a wonderful day! Date of review: September 9, 2012
In short: My favourite half marathon In full: I love this race. Yes, there is no chip timing and the start can be a bit chaotic, but the scenery is wonderful, the course almost flat (except the run up to the dam), and the organisers and locals are so friendly that you feel like you've been involved in something special.
The website clearly says that it is not a commercial, great north type event, but you come away with a nice medal, decent tee shirt, and the satisfaction of completing one of the most beautiful half marathons around. Date of review: September 9, 2012
In short: Fantastic scenery fantastic organisation A definite must for next year! In full: What a fantastic half marathon - flat as flat could be scenery amazing a definite must for next. Bear in mind there is no crowd support so it is a mentally challenging run but the crowd at the finish are just what you need. Only downside was the drink stations - could of done with one at mile 9 instead of 10 and another at about 12 otherwise cannot fault this race or its organisation! Well done! In short: was a very fast course would have been perfect if it wasnt for the wind the last 5 miles coming back in but thats not the organisers fault, brilliant race 10/10 Date of review: November 3, 2011
In short: Great race. This was my 4th time at Lake Vyrnwy and its already on my agenda for next year. In full: This is a great race in a great location. The start is a bit congested but its all sorted by the time you are half way up the hill towards the dam. Its then a case of keeping the lake on your right hand side and trying not to look to see how far you still have to run to get back to the dam. After that its downhill all the way to the finish. In short: Great location , lovelly flat course, cramped start. In full: Superb location and route around the lake, fresh clean air, trees and virtually no traffic- ideal for runners. Fast course once the chaotic start was behind you. WHY were there anticipated finish times at the start for poeple to line up according to pace when latecomers just piled in at the front!! spent the first mile or so weaving and swerving to avoid wrongly placed starters- very infuriating!! should be segregated correctly. Parking in muddy wet fields also not brilliant. Date of review: September 18, 2011
In short: HOW RACES SHOULD BE In full: With the lake vyrnwy 1/2 its about what it should be RUNNING! great local support, not overpriced like most are, really friendly people amazing scenery...already looking forward to 2012 and breaking my pb from this year!!! pat on the back goes to janet roberts and her crew. In short: Thankfully the rain held off and we yet another great run around Lake Vyrnwy courtesy of the Oswestry Olympians. My only problem is that the start is always congested, and maybe thought could be given to it starting on the road if that were possible. Date of review: September 13, 2011
In short: Loved it! In full: Re-visited this race having done it as a beginner 2 years ago after being given a number last minute by a friend.
Parking in a muddy field is a pain but it is very rural (thanks to everyone who pushed us out at the end!!!). The start is very narrow and congested but, after that, you get the stunning view down the lake from the dam! This year there was a lot of support and a decent mix of runners although it is very popular with clubs in Wales,Midlands and the North West.
Water was in bottles and I appreciated the jelly baby station too. Nice medal although it was just handed to you wrapped up rather than ready to wear but that`s nit-picking.
No PB but close despite limited training. I`ll be back! Date of review: September 13, 2011
