In short: Great race. This was my 4th time at Lake Vyrnwy and its already on my agenda for next year. In full: This is a great race in a great location. The start is a bit congested but its all sorted by the time you are half way up the hill towards the dam. Its then a case of keeping the lake on your right hand side and trying not to look to see how far you still have to run to get back to the dam. After that its downhill all the way to the finish. In short: Great location , lovelly flat course, cramped start. In full: Superb location and route around the lake, fresh clean air, trees and virtually no traffic- ideal for runners. Fast course once the chaotic start was behind you. WHY were there anticipated finish times at the start for poeple to line up according to pace when latecomers just piled in at the front!! spent the first mile or so weaving and swerving to avoid wrongly placed starters- very infuriating!! should be segregated correctly. Parking in muddy wet fields also not brilliant. Date of review: September 18, 2011

In short: Thankfully the rain held off and we yet another great run around Lake Vyrnwy courtesy of the Oswestry Olympians. My only problem is that the start is always congested, and maybe thought could be given to it starting on the road if that were possible. Date of review: September 13, 2011

In short: Loved it! In full: Re-visited this race having done it as a beginner 2 years ago after being given a number last minute by a friend.
Parking in a muddy field is a pain but it is very rural (thanks to everyone who pushed us out at the end!!!). The start is very narrow and congested but, after that, you get the stunning view down the lake from the dam! This year there was a lot of support and a decent mix of runners although it is very popular with clubs in Wales,Midlands and the North West.
Water was in bottles and I appreciated the jelly baby station too. Nice medal although it was just handed to you wrapped up rather than ready to wear but that`s nit-picking.
No PB but close despite limited training. I`ll be back! Date of review: September 13, 2011

In short: If this isn't the best Half Marathon in the world then I want to see what is In full: This is road running perfection for people who understand what real races are about. A location that takes the breath away still on my third time there and great organisation from people who really understand what makes a great race - no fuss, no nonsense, bargain entry fee and the whole village make the runners feel that they are wanted, not some annoyance. In short: ENJOYABLE In full: ORGANISATION: Everything arrived ok pre race. Car parking organised but in a very wet field with lots of car wheels spinning and no-one willing to help!
RACE: Start very narrow, zone markers for predicted finish time. Took over a minute to cross start line and with no chip timimg, could put your PB in jeopardy, otherwise a cracking route didnt even notice the uphill start amongst the crowds, rest of the race appeared to be all downhill, fantastic donhill finish with lots of spectators.
VALUE: Good - entry, medal, water/squash at finish. No goody bags or t-shirt (extra). Personally i prefer the optional price for t-shirt as have too many anyway and chose not to buy. Dont want a medal either would prefer that as an optional extra.
OVERALL: Will probably come back again next year, lovely scenic course and good value. Date of review: September 12, 2011

In short: Superb race in a great atmosphere In full: The setting is fantastic. Car parking was very efficient, the course well marked and water stations faultless. The race was run in a good spirit, and after the first couple of miles the course was downhill - what more could you want? Date of review: September 11, 2011
