In short: disorganised and overpriced In full: Starter kept saying race would start 14:30 but it was a 13:30 start time! You would think he could get it right! Pre-race information promised (1) 2 drinks stations every lap but there was only one at start/finish area and my husband had to jump in to help or there wouldn't have been any (2) times displayed on a big TV screen as you finish - not true (3) immediate print out of your time - not given (4) goodie bag for all finishers - not true: they ran out of them before half of the 10K runners finished (which I presume means the 20K runners got nothing). So £19 for a medal and a bottle of Gatorade at a race that was completely disorganised, with none of the officials able to answer any questions. Date of review: February 3, 2013
In short: Disorganised and poor value. In full: Promised "tv screen with times displayed at finish" did not materialise, promised "print out with time on it" did not materialise, any request for information was met with "check the website later" but still no update. However, bank account £18 lighter. Date of review: February 3, 2013
In short: Windy, flat and disorganised In full: Brutal winds on the way back up towards start/ finish. On a still day it is definitely a PB course. Start was run pretty smoothly but the finish less so. The 5k people were given no chils which seemed odd but the chips we were given for the 10k were most odd. Worn on your finger and then seemed to serve no purpose; there was no sensor oads that you ran over which would auto read your time. You had to push the finger thing into a reader and then a lady with a clipboard asked you your name, age etc. The entry fee is a bit steep considering disorganised finish and 'goody bag' which contained a bottle of Gatorade and some bits of paper!
In short: 20km (4 x 5km loops) - fine (can't legislate for weather sadly otherwise PB times) In full: Turn up, get finger chip, race number, run. £22 for a bottle of energy drink and a medal (no goody bag). The course on my garmin was 12.2 miles not 12.5miles (20k) therefore times are quicker and gave me a false sense of achievement. Offical Times not displayed by the time I finished, no one to point out these things at the finish. Saw event organiser packing away, rudely pushing past people to make sure he got going. If it wasn't for the fact it was flat and other took part, I would have preferred a training run with a mate. Will only do it again if I am hunting a PB and some confidence. In short: good course and smashed my PB In full: Disappointed in fact that paperwork stated we would get print out of our time-that did not happen and still waiting for official results to be posted :( .. the finger chip made my finger numb.. The course was flat, good surface and fast.. smashed my PB by around 5 mins despite the very strong headwind so well chuffed.. I would do it again possibly... just waiting to see if they come through with results as bit of an unorganised feel at finish and left wondering if chip registered.
In short: Good 5k course but no chip In full: Did the 5k since fancied a shorter distance this time. Generally good course, but narrow start and the tight turn at half way slowed things down a little.
Great weather given the last few weeks, although fresh head wind on the way back.
Good organisation at start and end, although goody bag was just a drink. Maybe there's more for the 10k runners - I'll find out in April since booked on this.
Biggest gripe, though, was no chip for the 5k for reasons entirely unclear. Maybe they thought of it as a fun race, but some just want to do 5k every now and then and besides everyone wants to know their actual time, whether doing it faster or as a first race. Nothing in the event details to indicate this so a bit of a let down on the day.
My gps watch said 4.9k. Date of review: February 2, 2013
