In short: A beautiful day on the North Wales coast for this spectacular race. I can't think of any other half that gives such spectacular views. The only gripe I have is the queue for medals & t-shirts at the finish. Maybe a better system could be devised? Date of review: November 19, 2012

In short: Challenging but a great feeling once you've finished In full: Lovely race, great scenery and friendly marshalls but not for anyone who faints at the thought of a hill. Going up The Orme was a 2.5 mile challenge but going down more than made up for it and let you claw back those lost minutes - I must have run my fastest miles ever on that stretch! It was also a nice boost to be able to see the finish from 5 miles out, even though it looked very small in the distance! Disappointed by the chaos at the end and long queue for medals etc - it was too long to be standing round in the cold after a race. Managed a respectable time (for me) though, so couldn't have been too tough! Date of review: November 19, 2012

In short: Great Race, just a few tweaks required to organisation In full: The race itself is tremendous, plenty of variety of gradient and surface (it's not all road!) and the marshals and locals are VERY encouraging and friendly. The views are brilliant, especially around The Great Orme and along the foreshore/beach, plus there's the wonderful start and finish area on the Marina in the shadow of Conwy Castle.
However, the organisation needs looking at, especially as the event grows (2000+ entered this year, although only around 1600 started). Parking wasn't good unless you were very early (90 minutes plus), the queue for numbers was very long (esp if you'd been trying to park for 45 minutes and were running out of time) and the queue for medals and T's at the end was mad. Couple of suggestions: give people the option of having numbers posted out and give out T's at registration as well if required, a simple cross or mark on the race number would suffice to see if people had already got theirs.
To end on a more positive note though, it is great fun, the crowd are brilliant (cheers to the fella that was offering out fruit jellies with a couple of miles to go!) and if you can handle a couple of miles of hills, it's very much beginner friendly with all levels of ability taking part. The organisers may just need to look at limiting the numbers to make it run really smoothly. Date of review: November 19, 2012

In short: Great race - just needs a few tweaks In full: This was the first time I have done this race and I did enjoy it. Atmosphere was great, marshalls were very encouraging and smiley and the support from the locals/day trippers was great.
A few suggestions - for a race that is getting bigger (2000 entrants this year) there is a pitiful shortage of toilets - you'd think the council would open the public loos at the car park behind the castle.....
Bottles of water would be better than the little cartons being handed out, and maybe isotonic drinks could be offered? (Like they do at Chester). If I didn't have my own bottle of water with me to 'top up' on the cartons I'd have been in trouble.
Also, distinct lack of marshalls on the downhill section of the Orme and on the route from West Shore back to Deganwy, so if you got into trouble there you'd be banking on the good nature of fellow runners or walkers to get help for you.
On the up side though, two fabulous t-shirts and a lovely medal - although I did have to queue for quite a long time to get this and my partner didn't even know he had to go and find them - could they not be handed out just after you cross the finish line??
Otherwise, a challenging and enjoyable race with fabulous crowds lining the finish area. Date of review: November 19, 2012

In short: 3rd year running and still a great race In full: Superb race, very tough up the Great Orme 190m in 3 miles ! Great downhill after that and a tricky 2 mile segment on the sand, topped off with an evil run up a bridge at the end.
There was no problems with queing for me, but I noted slower runners were waiting upwards of 20 mins for t shirt and medal. This may be solved by a) sending out the race numbers beforehand and b) using the people that hand out the numbers to give out the tshirts and medals before the race to people who may want them then and simply marking the numbers of people who have picked them up. They can then go into the baggage tent. You don't want to be in the same position as people were at the Manchester Marathon.
Other than that, great race, will be back next year Date of review: November 18, 2012

In short: Flat course great chance of PB. In full: If you are looking for a fast course this Is the race for you. Numbers were down by 50% on last year, late start for second year on the trot. Drink station was at almost 4 mile and 9 miles advertised 2 & 7. Race was well marshalled and has potential to be great race. Date of review: June 20, 2012

In short: BORING.... In full: When I booked, it wasn't very clear that this was going to be two x 5 mile laps of a looped circuit running up and down peoples streets, although the run down the prom was nice. My main gripe was the water - little plastic pots with a foil lid which were almost impossible to get into without spilling the meagre (75ml or so)contents. And then nothing else for another 5 miles :-( The crowd was nice but marshals were mainly disinterested (except the 2 groups of guys at the 2 far loop backs, who were still cheering on the second lap) Definately not for me next year Date of review: June 18, 2012

In short: Great scenery, enjoyable 10k In full: Great views round the course including the pier and views to Snowdonia and the Menai Straits. A couple of hills to keep it interesting and well organised start and finish in the city centre. Will be back. Date of review: May 31, 2012

In short: An interesting race In full: This is the first year for this race and as would be expected there were a few teething problems. Not completely convinced by having to take an elastic band to prove you have run part of the route! There seemed to be no 5 mile marker, unless i missed it! The atmosphere was good, although not a huge turn out for a City run, i suppose it is cruel to compare to Chester or Liverpool. There was no medal at the end which was promised on the runners world information. The t-shirt is ok, but not brilliant for the £19 entry!Saying that the course was fine, and was a lot more hilly than i was expecting. Not too sure about running part of the same route twice, could the course be changed a little for next year? Having said all that, i can see this race becoming more popular year on year, 313 runners for the first race is not bad at all. I will be back next year! Date of review: May 28, 2012
