In short: Four season in one day to a new half PB In full: Good organisation. Believe some problems with parking left us lucky ones running past the odd trapped runner in a car queue. Preachy announcer made good points but in a negative way, not the way to inspire the beginner or get the race mood going. Participatants have paid good money remember. Great marshalls, great support through the rural roads. good water stops although smaller bottles please. More potholes at 6-7 miles than 2 years ago so not a perfect surface but a good undulating course. Thanks to the organisers for a good day and a new PB. Date of review: March 24, 2014
In short: A good race but really need to get the details right In full: I love this race & this was my 4th go at it. All the large elements were great - large support, loads of friendly & encouraging marshalls, plentiful drinks stations however I was disappointed by some of the organisational elements this year. A new car park was advertised this year promising a speedy getaway afterwards. However no mention was made of reducing the spaces at the rugby club. We were early enough & lucky to get a space in one of the side roads but the lack of parking also increased the chaos at the end. The local residents must have been hopping mad as later arrivals parked on verges, corners and blocked driveways. Also only large t shirts available - finishing in just over 2 hours with 1000 runners behind me this was really disappointing. Date of review: March 24, 2014
In short: Ran Like Clockwork In full: I've read a few reviews saying there were problems getting to the start and parking, particularly after 9am. The (very detailed) race information book did say arrive before 9. We did and parked at the rugby club with no issues.
On to the race itself: yes people start too far forward, I was in the 90 min zone at the start and there was no way that first mile was 90 min pace. Not a lot the organisers can do about that though it was very clearly signed at the start.
The course has a couple of bumps nothing really to write home about and the downhill’s make up for it.
Great support from the marshals who appeared to be every 10-15 meters. There was nearly as many marshals as runners! Plenty of spectators out offering words of encouragement and jelly babies and the crowd on the last 200 meters really pull you along.
Top quality medal and tech tee (not pink this year!) plenty of water and sports drinks post race.
Whether you are doing this as a marathon warm up or a half in it's own right this is a great race to do and I will be back next year...
In short: A great run In full: Very well organised. Only complaint this year would be that (i assume) due to the farmers field being closed there was a massive lack in parking spaces. This caused a massive traffic jam so alot of people were late or close to being late. Also it made the first mile very slow as the traffic couldn't be moved in time from one half of the carriageway so the width was reduced by half. Aside from that, a fantastic run, well organised Date of review: March 24, 2014
In short: Well organised, highly recommended In full: Would definitely recommend this race- was a little frightened as seemed to be a LOT of very serious club runners and the booklet was advising a 2.30 hour cut off time and no earphones etc...but was actually very friendly, seemed to be a real mix of runners taking part- including lots with earphones, so don't let that put you off- roads were closed, so no real safety concerns. organisation was excellent, the booklet was very informative, plenty of parking at the start (we parked at the pub for £5 and then got that money off food/drinks after the race). there were markers for people to choose where to start depending on finishing time- as usual lots of people who paid no heed to this so the first mile was a bit bottle necked for me, a little difficult to get going (i was in the 1.50 zone)...but after that the crowds thinned out a lot. course was very picturesque, lots of vocal support in the villages that the rave went through- some lovely people handing out jelly babies and really cheering people on, which was nice. marshals all very encouraging and friendly, and water stations well manned and in frequent places on the course. only real criticism here is that the middle two stations had cups instead of bottles- so i ended up wearing my water rather than drinking it! course was mildly undulating, but nothing to be scared of- and plenty of downhill/long flat sections to really attack. goody bag had a really top quality medal and really nice tech tee and a mars bar which went down a treat. there were also people handing out water, powerade and space blankets which was appreciated. All in all, really enjoyed the day, will be back in the future no doubt. many thanks to organisers and volunteers :) Date of review: March 23, 2014
In short: Scenic, quick and well supported race In full: Positives: enthusiastic marshals & supporters, good t-shirt, fairly flat and fast course with great scenery all the way around Negatives: cups at a couple of water station and ran out of small t-shirts Date of review: March 23, 2014
In short: Smooth organisation, beautiful country roads (closed!), a few undulations but nothing major. I In full: Fantastic race! Really well organised with an abundance of happy marshals. Lots of water stations, great t-shirt and decent medal. Beautiful route on closed country lanes. Results sent via text incredibly quickly. Very impressed with race, would definitely do it again. In short: Could not get to the start In full: Spent 45 mins getting from the motorway only for the police to close the road before I could get into Wilmslow. They sent us back towards the motorway. 12 weeks training and 1 hour 30 in the car wasted..... Have done this race for last few years. Time to give it a miss. No point having 4000 runners if they can't park... Date of review: March 23, 2014
