In short: Well organised, tremendous support and a fast course. In full: The race village was excellent, no queues at all for the bag drop/pick-up and an adequate amount of toilets. The course, the first four miles were very dull looping back on yourself around the back of Old Trafford but once out on the road in the residential areas it really came into it's own. Fantastic support along the streets throughout. The open and empty area of Carrington at around mile 21 was tough but it's not too long before it picks up again for the final push. One thing, I noticed a few people running into cones. Some could have been placed more kindly. I stayed with the Brooks 4 hour pacer for the majority who was very good at giving regular updates and encouragement. It did get congested in that pack at times though. Plenty of water stations and I liked the jelly squares, I would have liked isotonic drinks at a couple more stations. Nice big medal at the end and a very good technical t-shirt thrown in as well.
A very good and satisfying race in all. Date of review: April 30, 2013
In short: Well organised, although there were some slower runners who were nearer the front which should be marshalled better. I ended up running on grass to pass them. In full: Overall a very quick route, fantastic support especially in Altrincham but a bit sparse around Carington but it is down country lanes I suppose. A tad on the expensive side but i suppose they have to line the glazers' pockets to use the Car Park at old trafford. Fantastic medal and bag at the end especially the t-shirt which is the best i have had. Would do it again but next time don't put the X Factor auditions on at the same time in MUFCs ground. It was a bit chaotic to say the least getting to the Car Parks. Weather was good and I PB'd it in 3:45:11 Date of review: April 30, 2013
In short: Brilliant race! In full: Smooth organisation, well-planned route with a few out and back loops, which was great for moral support, easy and flat course and absolutely amazing support from the crowds throughout. Date of review: April 30, 2013
In short: Excellent race, well organised! In full: This is a very flat fast course, I was nailed on for a pb until my hamstring decided to give up 3 miles from home, still only one minute over my previous best! In most places you don't notice the scenery because it seemed like everybody in Manchester had lined the streets, simply the most incredible support I have ever witnessed at an event, if it wasn't for the crowds I don't think I would have made it round, thanks to everyone who turned out! The baggage tents at the end ran like clockwork, the medal and t-shirt are splendid, goody bag was a bit sparse, appreciated the toothpaste but no brush?! All round excellence apart from the chip timing which was a bit chaotic, but to be honest that could have happened at any event at any time, a bit unfortunate! Date of review: April 30, 2013
In short: What a change from last year - really good race and points taken on bpard In full: Ran the race last year and even without weather issues there would have been problems but as for this year the organisers have certainly taken on board issues and in general corrected them. The course, even with its loops back on itself was more friendly and actually led to larger crowds at more points. The people of Altrincham again did themselves proud but also the crowds at the the top of Brooklands Road were phenomonal coming back up to the top of Brooklands Road was like at the top of a climb on the Tour de France - the spectators narrowed the course (not a problem) and it was like going through a sound tunnel - Brilliant. The bag pick up was brilliant this year and worked superbly. As for the weather if you could ask for a perfect day for a marathon that is what you would ask for. A superfast course I think everyone I spoke to after the race had set PB's and big ones at that (me included). Only gripe was the mile markers seemed to be non existent - not a problem if like me you have a Garmin but really should have been more prominent. Water Stations really well run and Marshalling in general was superb. Thankyou Oraganisers, Spectators and Marshalls for making it a very good day. Date of review: April 30, 2013
In short: 'Great'er Manchester marathon...shame about the chip timing issues In full: Missed last year due to injury, but friends who did both said that as poorly organised as it was last year, it was as good this year. I have to say that i was fairly impressed with the Race village, plenty of space, loads of toilets, changing and bag drop\collection all good, and it was outside the home of gods own football team. First 3 miles of the course were fairly dull, out and around the fringe of the Quays industrial estate…but they served a purpose of stretching out the field and letting you settle your pace. From 6 and a bit onwards the crowds came into their own (apart from rural miles 20 to 21) the streets were lined solid….huge amounts of noise and encouragement couple of sections were deafening (Sale, Brooklands, Alty, the last quarter mile etc)….I felt the support was very similar to my experience in London! Good tech shirt to finish, and the biggest medal I’ve received for any run at the end…nice! The promise of the flattest UK marathon was true, and it was a definite PBfest!.....i knocked 46 mins of my previous best! And everyone else I knew also took minutes of their PB’s. However, the times I have used have come from my own watch and Runkeeper….because my chip time is completely wrong…..it states I finished 55 minutes earlier than I did. Obviously from some of the other feedback I have seen, there have been significant issues with the timings. Think it would have made more sense to put out a holding statement on the results and get them right before publishing so many incorrect ones. That won’t put me off applying for next year though!!
In short: Excellent!!!! In full: Well done to the organisers - an excellent event. Thanks to the many marshalls, volunteers, entertainers and other support staff around the route. Also thanks to Brooks Pacer - excellent encouragement and helped me achieve a PB. The support around the course was brill. I hope this event continues and I think Trafford is an excellent host borough. Date of review: April 30, 2013
