In short: Great race with great support In full: The race seemed very well organised to me. A few hills at the beginning and a bit of wind (on the course, not me) but the support really picks up when you need it for the last 12km or so – also nice and flat by then. There was the odd bottleneck for runners, but nothing too bad. Nice of them to organise a sunny day for us, too. Date of review: April 20, 2013
In short: I'll be back In full: Winter relented just in time to give us a near perfect day to race; well maybe a little windy. The course is good to run (few hills) and good for spectators (with a bit of organisation you could see your friends 3 or 4 times on the way round). The spectators and marshalls were great and seemed to be enjoying themselves almost as much as the runners. Only major gripe is the need to pick up your number the day before - how about the option to put it in the post? But a great day and 9 mins off my pb in 3:46 so I'll be back next year. In short: some things better, some things worse In full: run all 4 now, i really like Brighton, and lots of features of this race. also, i hate to moan. but, making us travel to the expo is a con, nothing changes on the boring Portslade loop despite the obvious medical access risks, and worst of all the route out from the exit area is now very much longer. I needed the station, as encouraged, but they added about 3/4 mile on the the route, which was no joke Date of review: April 18, 2013
In short: Amazing crowds, nasty wind in the last 5 In full: 2nd marathon, first at Brighton. Very well organised and slickly run with thought put into it for both runners and spectators. Only minor grumble was having to pick up the number the day before. The course is pretty friendly with some bumps and rises in the first 10 but then pancake flat. Unfortunately the SE wind was directly into our face for the last 5 miles which wasn't ideal! The atmosphere was unreal - especially through halfway and then the finish The elite start was excellent and a very good idea. Will definitely be back :) Date of review: April 18, 2013
In short: Enjoyable In full: My 2nd Marathon in a week and part of 3in15Days.
A pretty good marathon to be fair, good crowds, decent course (apart from mile 18-22 - that diversion around the fish factory or whatever it was was hideous and vile).
Had hoped to be troubling the 3:20 bracket but poor organisation at the start prevented that. THere were a load of 4hour runners crammed right towards the front of the 3:15-4:00 coral, a few said to me "well you should have got here earlier then" as I tried to edge nearer the front. I felt that this was a pretty poor attitude to have to fellow runners.
Couldn't really see the need for an expo to be honest apart from the obvious ££££.
I said I'd race it again as it was enjoyable and there wasn't anything major to really grumble about but truth be told I can't see me choosing this over another race.
In short: excellent race, one to remember forever In full: wow - seems a lot of people are hard to please! yes the downside was the lack of toilets and this was a big issue. waited 30minutes and had to go in a bush as there just wasn't enough time. water stations seemed to be every 2-3 miles which I found more than enough. roads were wide and crowds were out of this world. i think the walk from the finish line was a ploy to keep moving personally. worst thing to do is just suddenly stop so it didn't bother me too much. already in for next year Date of review: April 18, 2013
In short: Great course great day brilliant organisation In full: Ok I hadn't trained due to injury and was only going along to help my wife's first effort at a marathon, but the crowds and the organisation helped me to the very end! Date of review: April 17, 2013
