In short: The Sussex Marathon is a hill monster - but what a stunning route
In full: Well organised event. Beautifully scenic route, but never ending ups and downs. Really struggled in the 2nd half. Find the Beachy Head Marathon easier! Nice to get a quality medal and tech t shirt. Great marshalls and feed stations throughout.A few tweaks to the route would be nice - everyone was over on their Garmins - lose the extra 500metres. Great to have a quality marathon in this region.

In short: Lack of a marshal at a T-junction on a very badly planned route
In full: How can you not marshal a T-junction?
This appalling oversight cost me 3rd place, and ruined so very many months of hard training for me.
Drastic improvements need to be made to the event and the course for me to even begin to consider recommending this marathon to anybody.

In short: Hills got the better of me!
In full: Beautiful countryside, but relentless hills and a brutal finish! Great free tech t shirt though, beats a goody bag any day! If you do this next year I would pay a visit to do a training run on the course beforehand, as I definately under estimated it!

In short: The Hills were Alive with the Sound of Running
In full: Fantastic organisation with enthusiastic staff and many volunteers. I was prepared for hills but shaken by the intensity with a double dose of uphill work to complete each of the 2 laps.

Well worth the effort, though.

I compare the Sussex Marathon to Beachy Head but without the grass and sea-views!
The value of entry, technical T shirt and a vast quantity of bottled water, Gu sachets and Coke puts the Brighton Marathon to shame.

I will be back next year.

In short: Good for goats!
In full: This is my 2nd Sussex Marathon and wow, is this one hilly. Last year was about 1,800ft of climbs and I thought that was hard but the new course was more than 2,300ft. It was quite relentless with, it seems, hardly any flat parts at all. I know you have the downhills but with tired legs these are just as punishing as the climbs!

Weather was superb and the organisation and marshalls all excellent - great encouragement from marshalls and St Johns Ambulance people throughout. Nice to have bottled water on the course too - you need this in order to take on fluids which is much harder with cups.

Timing - being 3-weeks before London - was better than the 2-weeks last year and this allows sufficient recovery for those of us attempting both.

Not sure about the course distance - I measured just short of 26.5m and others I checked with on the day all similar long mileage (not quite as bad as mine).

In terms of improvements for next year I would welcome a look at the course - it is largely a 2-lap event and the final mile up the hill, which you do twice, is a killer. It would be good to have some areas that flatten out to recover.

The jump up to the village green at Rushlake Green was also unwelcome (and the jump back down to the road) along with the long grass.

Ultimately though this is a very tough race but one that is extremely well put together. Thanks for everything yesterday and hope to be back next year.

In short: Good, but where's the water?
In full: I liked the laps of the seafront - it allowed your supporters to see you several times and the crowd was good. The marshals were really positive - well done on their recruitment they were a credit to the race. Organisation was good, registration likewise. The only problem was the lack of water stations. I would prefer more, and running out of water at the turning point on the seafront is poor. Also, no bananas or cakes at the end - must run faster...
