In short: Best race of the year?
In full: Not even a typical Lake District downpour lasting several hours could spoil this race.
All the marshalls were fantastic and a big thank you to all of them for their support and encouragement.Brilliant race.

In short: Unmissable. A marathon in Britain's most beautiful region.
In full: A 2 lap course with some very serious hills. I ran 20 minutes slower than my previous marathon with perhaps a stronger performance. Fabulous setting and the organiser 'The Rocket' is clearly very passionate about running an outstanding event. I would suggest that this is not a course for a 1st time marathoner but I did it as my second marathon and loved it. Completing races like this is what being a long distance runner is all about.

In short: WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a fantastic race !!
In full: Thirteen miles of unrelenting hills without a level stretch anywhere.
This is by far the toughest, but most scenic race I have ever done.
But having said that, with the exception of the 1 in 3 section at about a mile, most of the hills are runnable provided you take your time and pace it sensibly.
The effort is more than compensated by the breathtaking scenery as you pass through the most beautiful part of the Lake District.
If you only do one race in the area do this one; if you have several planned then do Langdale last because after this everything else will seem a disappointment.
A thoroughly enjoyable race, and next year at the risk of being sectioned under the mental health act, I may do the full marathon - there are too many splendid views to take in first time round.
As usual, the race was superbly organised by Rod and his team, with friendly marshalls, plenty of water stations, and a great T-shirt, even the weather was perfect.
Long live 'Rocket' Rod !!

In short: VERY tough!
In full: The Great North Run 6 days before was a walk in the park compared to this - add 10 mins to your best half marathon time. As someone else has said, respect to the lunatics who went round twice!

I loved the course and the scenery, with a fantastic t-shirt provided at the end, but I think if the fun-runners and marathoners get a medal then so should the halfers.

Either way I'll be back next year!

In short: One of the most toughest and rewarding marathons that I have had the fortune to have run.
In full: The drive in to Langdale will soon let you knew what you were in for. Some majestic scenery with some pretty threatening hills.

Perfect weather, a relaxed build up, an approachable race director, and people who seemed genuinely pleased that you made the effort to show up.

The "Toughest Road Marathon in the World" tag is a big boast, and there will be few of us that will dispute this fact as our legs recover and we gradually get back to walking properly again!

Weather was gloriously sunny with negligable wind - absolutely perfect.

The marathon was two laps, which allowed debutants of the event to use the first lap to ease yourself in to the race and see what you were in for. The hill after mile 1 was too steep for mere mortals like myself to even bother trying to run - no shame in my book in walking the bulk of this as part of my strategy of self-preservation! The next hill around mile 3 also required some walking. Things sort of settled down after that to strongly undulating which included the grind at mile 6. With confidence improving, this was temporarily shattered by the road sign around mile 8 indicating the last major hill with a 25% incline! The remainder of the course was tough but runnable as long as you did sufficient hill-work in training.

With conservative pacing and good fitness, you can then tackle the second lap with a strategy based on you first lap experience. I even managed a negative split today, but it is easy to get things wrong if you pace the first half without respecting the course difficulty.

Indispersed with this challenging course profile was scenery to take your mind off the pain, friendly runners and superb marshals. Plenty of water stations, and pockets of supporters who were there to give you a resounding cheer.

A proper fnishing straight, a medal, two t-shirts, and water to aid recovery. Reasonably priced refreshments at the pub/race venue, and generous prizes to the race/category winners.

An unforgetable day for this runner. Thanks to Rod and the team.

In short: Wow, that was a challange!
In full: My first marathon...
A perfect day, beautiful place and a great atmosphere, better than another road race i've ever done.
I ran 300 miles in preperation for this and I can tell you that The Great Langdale marathon is a tough race!
the 1st lap was enjoyable and the 2nd... an achievement!
I recommend this to everyone who can find the time to train!

In short: Ouch - they were not joking when they say the hills are 1 in 3
In full: Amazing location, well organised and very friendly. All along the route the locals could not have been more encouraging - only wish i had got my diet right in the week before so had not blown up at mile 12 - a very long last 14. A must do race if you like it tough and scenic
