In short: Loved it! Where do I sign up for next year? In full: This is a great course. I'm a first timer so missed the heat and sun of previous years, the weather was just about perfect today, light rain and a bit of a breeze. The marshals were first class, all very cheery and encouraging despite standing in the rain, and the organisation was fine too. Dithered between road and trail shoes - I don't think it really mattered but went for trail and didn't find there was so much tarmac to make me regret it. The trails don't need specific shoes but I appreciated the extra grip. Definitely in the calendar for next year. The horse brass medal is lovely but a bit of ribbon to hang it on wouldn't go amiss. In short: Good organisation, ideal venue with loads of parking and good value In full: Very nice race, lovely route through the New Forest and a nice mix of road and mostly forest trials. Relatively flat route with a couple of inclines and declines thrown in. The weather was quite rainy but not cold so actually ideal this year. And a good venue with plenty of space and parking, easy to access. Date of review: July 12, 2015
In short: Can we start earlier next time ? In full: Another very hot race...would be nice to start and finish earlier rather than running through the mid-day sun. I actually got shouted out at the end for taking 2 cups of squash...which had I not been at the point of collapse from dehydration/heatstroke I would have taken exception to. In short: Scenic well organised race In full: After a few years break, I enjoyed this race. There is a mix of heath and forest so there was a bit of shade on a hot day. Conditions underfoot were good with gravel paths and some quiet roads. Race is well organised and it was great to see the kids races beforehand. Date of review: July 17, 2014
In short: A well organised, possibly PB race, but too hot on the day. In full: This is my favourite mixed terrain race and the 22nd time I have run it.
The organisation, as usual was excellent, with ample parking, plenty of toilets, enthusiastic marshalls and a nice scenic, virtually traffic free course. The water stations were well positioned and manned. and plenty of water and orange at the finish.
It was very hot, as usual, but thankfully not as hot as last year. I was 8 minutes quicker which either means I was fitter, or had become acclimatised to hotter conditions. Date of review: July 17, 2014
