In short: Brilliant! In full: Can't ask for more from a race; pretty much perfect organisation, fantastic marshalling by the club and the cadets (especially given several hours standing in the sun) and fantastic support from the crowds all round the course. Fab medal and goody bag and t-shirt and the can of coke at the end was genius. Stunning scenery and a great rural course takes the mind off the long hard miles. A hilly course and v hot for my first ever marathon but finishing in one piece in a good time makes it a double achievement. Date of review: May 11, 2015
In short: Amazing, well done everyone involved. In full: My first marathon distance and what a run to pick. The hill on mile 14 was killer and the club marshling was epic, loads of support and everyone was cheering you on. It was a very hot day and there was plenty of water stops on the course. Spectators had plenty of places to go to watch the runners and was spread around the course nicely to help keep motivation going. As it was my first I got a pb at 4 hours 5 so I'm chuffed and still buzzing today.
Thanks to the Halstead runners, see you next year ;) Date of review: May 11, 2015
In short: hilly, gorgeous, friendly In full: Picture-perfect course, challenging but not killer-hills, faultless organisation, supportive and plentiful marshals, spot-on mile markers, friendly/feel-good atmosphere amongst runners, easy/close-by parking. My 2nd time here-failed to better last year's time...but still as much on a high after the race. Big thanks to all involved. Date of review: May 11, 2015
In short: Excellent In full: My first marathon, and my friends weren't kidding about the hills. Did it under 5 hrs and there was plenty of support and water stations around the course. I also picked up a nice tan on the back of my neck. Not many events this year have done that ?? Date of review: May 11, 2015
In short: very hot, otherwise could be a lovely event In full: Well organised, parking near the start/finish, plenty loos, crap showers (tepid and just a heavy trickle of water rather than a shower in the ladies), lots of lovely supporters, cheery marshalls and very friendly all round. Only slight criticism was at the finish line where the helpers seemed more concerned about if I was OK when all I wanted was the chip removing and my medal.... but I had a serious blood sugar low so may have just been me! Lovely event, but hilly and hot. Personal worst on the time! Date of review: May 11, 2015
In short: Essex country side at its best with this very well organised race. A ++++ In full: My second marathon and only booked as a training run for my 100km Race to the stones in July and could not have loved it more. Fantastic in everyway. So well organised they even print up direction for your supporters so they can get to a great viewing area and see you at least twice on the run. The countryside is just so beautiful and really keeps your mind off the miles. It was very hot yesterday but I kept really well hydrated with the excellent water stops. Each one offering water, squash and nearly always jelly babies and orange slices. All marshals where brilliant especially standing in the sun all day, so many thanks. Will be back next year, many thanks :) PS I got a PB so added bonus Date of review: May 11, 2015
In short: Fanstastic Event a must do Marathon In full: Brilliant value for money, course full of supporters, plenty of water stations, your own drinks out on course, there are hills but nothing that will break you. I took 20 mins off of my PB on this course, so it's not to avoid. Great event a must Date of review: May 11, 2015
