In short: Hilly & Friendly In full: This is my fifteenth half and is one of the better ones. Field big enough to have some atmosphere, but not too large. Challenging course - those hills - not to be underestimated. Didn't see anyone run up the 11 mile hill! Finish a little croweded and goody bag poor; medal and t-shirt fine. But the best comment is saved till last - people of Hanlay and surrounding area - thanks. They lined just about the entire course, cheered, clapped, offered sweets and hose pipe sprays. Good on 'em! Makes it special. Date of review: June 15, 2010

In full: this my first half marathon after only taking up running 6 months ago was in a word awesome. i had done a 10k and a 7 mile just to get the feeling of whats what in the world of running before entering the potters arf. 4 weeks before the race i turned my ankle and was out of training for 3 weeks, so was going into the race on a wing and a prayer. what a fantastic time i had. i thought it was a brilliant course with some long up hills and a real twist about 2 miles from the end...... ive never seen a hill like it and at about 11 miles what a killer it was. the organisation seemed faultless and i certainly had no complaints, but for me the best bit was the crowd. all the way round people were cheering you on...ladys out with hose pipes and sweets, and plenty of drink stations. as i came down the hill into Hanley on the finishing straight the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end and for a moment i could have been crossing the line for England such was the cheering,,screaming and shouting. the crowd were brilliant. i did it in 1hr 57mins and was chuffed to bits to get the bronze medal. i cant wait till next year, im going for the silver!!! thanks for a brilliant time Hanley. In short: love this one, tough hill at milton 11 miles but crowd support brilliant. One for the calendar In full: The Potters Arf is the best for crowd support anywhere in the country, they make it worth the agony of facing that hill at Milton. The finish could be better where you have to wait in a long queue for your t-shirt and goodie bag. But overall it's a friendly race that I never want to miss. Date of review: June 14, 2010

In full: My 1st race..on my local course..i trained on it...and still struggled...but the people of the potteries..really do push you along...you gotta see it to believe it! The hills are a killer...but made better with sweets n drinks on offer and of course the couple on top of milton road with the hose pipe...sure they are famous by now!! superb..even when had a personal nightmare...by struggling with a hamstring problem..the atmosphere gets you to the end. In short: 2 big hill make this a challeging course. I find the crowd support is beaten only by the London Marathon. The organisation and marsahlls deserve credit for a great race. I'm looking forward to next year already to see if I can improve on my time. Date of review: June 14, 2010

In short: Fun race for all. In full: Did this, Chester & Nottingham half and this is by far the best. Great atmosphere all round the course, especially at the start and end. This was the 2nd time I've done the race - the first year I didn't know what to expect and was thrown a bit by the two hills. This year I was prepared and it paid off, although Milton Road is still a toughie. The big question is - Milton Road, to run or not to run. For me, it's to run. Being a bloke it's what we do, although I passed some ladies walking, they quickly caught up after and passed me! Last year the running Daffodil beat me by a couple of mins and I wouldn't let someone dressed as a huge flower beat me this year (full respect to whoever it is as they put in a great time). Managed a PB of 1:41 and hammered 13 minutes off my Chester time from a month earlier. Date of review: June 14, 2010
